[Featured On] The Anaheim Moms Blog

Thursday, May 5, 2016

I mentioned on Instagram the other day that I recently became a contributor on the Anaheim Moms Blog. I plan to share a little bit more about that in a future post, but I wanted to share with you today that my very first post is live on their blog today!

Here is a little sneak peek.

"... The days, weeks, and months went by again and we found out we were expecting a baby! SUCH A JOYOUS TIME and yet a piece of me couldn’t be 100% happy. I was about to become a mom and I didn’t have a mom to share that joy with. By now, my mom had passed away almost eight years prior. Of course I miss her and think about her daily, but it was easier. I had accepted what happened and moved on. But then things in your life happen and you’re brought right back to that moment one more time.

Being a mom is one of the BEST things that has EVER happened to me. I never knew as much joy as I did when I held my son in my arms for the very first time. I had known him for a mere two minutes and it felt like a lifetime. That moment, that day, I couldn’t physically share with my mom, but I know she was there. I know she got to experience the joy of her first grandchild being born...."

[Featured On] Work It Mommy : Mommylogues Series

Monday, February 8, 2016

Happy Monday! Today you can find me over at Whitney's blog, Work It Mommy, being featured on her Mommylogues Series. The Mommylogues Series is a new series that Whitney hosts on her blog about a mom's journey to motherhood.

A little excerpt from my post...

"... Though this is definitely not how I pictured my life, I have learned so much from Mason and wouldn't change a thing. Sure it can be more challenging, more stressful, and definitely more expensive at times, but at the same time, I am learning so much just seeing life through his eyes. He lights up with joy when I ask him to help me bake cookies. He screams "YEAH!" when I ask him if he wants to go over to his best friend's house. And he is a total pain in the butt sometimes when he steals my drinks, eats the food off my plate, and tells me what to do. But he is the most loving little kid. And even though he can't use words to tell me that he loves me yet, I know he does. He shows me through sign language and through the huge, wet kisses he gives me every morning, every day when I drop him off at preschool, and every night before bed... "

Motherhood from Every Angle.

Thursday, July 16, 2015

Originally posted on Beauty and the Binky on June 22, 2015.

Back in September of 2014, Jaclyn started a series called "Motherhood from Every Angle". She wanted to show the real side of motherhood - the unfiltered, non-Pinterest, non-picture perfect Instagram photo side of motherhood. She wanted to let moms know that they aren't alone. Sometimes their houses are dirty - and that's ok! Sometimes they wear yoga pants and a tank top all day - and that's ok! And sometimes they don't wash their hair for a couple days - and that's ok too!
She first shared her story and has had various guest posters since then. I was lucky enough to be featured last month and since Mason's birthday is coming up (which will mark my third year being a mother), I wanted to share my story with you all. In case you didnt catch it on her blog in it's original format, I wanted to share it here. The only thing that is different is that I cut out the introduction part (since you're here, I assume you already know a little bit about me, but in case you don't, you can find out more here).

So! Let's get started...

Describe your mommy uniform :

My mommy uniform differs depending on the day. I work full time outside of the home from Monday - Friday so I can typically be found wearing some sort of black or gray slacks/dress pants and a nice blouse or sweater and more often than not, a scarf also! (I'm obsessed!) This is my go-to outfit and I really don't have to think much about what I'm wearing in the morning which is good since I don't really have much time. I typically set my alarm for 5am, hit snooze twice, get up, take a shower, throw on some pants and whatever shirt I feel like, put my hair in a ponytail, add a headband, and I'm off to get my lunch, my breakfast, and Mason's breakfast ready for the day so we can be out of the house by 6:55am. It's quite the race in the mornings. (This has since changed since I got a new job, but when I wrote this, I still dressed business casual for work.)

Saturday and Sunday outfits can differ as well. If we have plans, then I most often will just wear jeans, a t-shirt, my go-to mom hair style, and flip flops. Since we live in sunny Southern California, this outfit is more than acceptable about 90% of the year. If it's a little cold, I'll throw on a sweatshirt. But if we don't have plans, then you can usually find me wearing a more comfortable outfit including some sort of sweatpants/capris and a tank top or t-shirt. And of course, my hair in a bun. I rarely, if ever, actually "do" my hair (aka straighten it). I love how it looks, but I love sleeping for those 10 extra minutes more! In fact, I do it so infrequently that when I do and I go to work, people comment on how nice I look that day (umm, thanks, did I look bad yesterday?? LOL).

What is your strategy when getting dressed for the day?

I touched on it a little bit above, but basically comfort. Depending upon what activity we are doing determines my outfit. If I'm going to work, then business casual with slacks, a sweater, a scarf, and flats (since I'm on my feet all day). If we're going to the park to play or rent bikes, then I usually dress more in work out clothes to be comfy. And if we're going to meet friends for a play date, then jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops are my go-to. I don't like to spend a lot of money on clothes and mainly shop good sales. My go-to stores are Old Navy, Loft, Gap, Target, and recently ThredUp. In fact I just got a pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans for a steal of $35.99 just the other day!

What is your favorite clothing item?

Is a scarf a clothing item? Because if it is, then scarves for sure! I wear one almost everyday. I have a small obsession!

Describe your cleaning/organizing routine :

My house is far from clean. In fact, I just stuck my arm in leftover banana from my son's lunch right before I typed that. Now, don't get me wrong, my house is not a pig sty either. It is very livable and clean... enough. That being said, on any given day, you can more than likely find some crumbs under the table, toys all over the living room, all the books from my son's book shelves knocked onto the floor, my bed unmade, unopened mail in a pile on the kitchen counter, and my son's Cars "train" table completely demolished. As a working mom who is gone from the house between 9-10 hours a day, depending upon traffic, I just don't have time to clean everything. I have to set priorities. And my priorities include making sure everyone is fed and dressed and out the door for school and work on time. That my lunch is packed. That we are all happy and healthy. And if that means that toy clean up waits until a few days later or heck, even the weekend, so be it. That's just how I roll. Now if I know someone is coming over, I will definitely try to tidy up a bit. So, I'm really not sure if I even answered the question, but I think you get the gist. I've been meaning to make a cleaning schedule since oh... January (it was one of my goals this year) but I just haven't gotten around to it. It's not high enough for me on my list of things to do. So, I clean when I need to, and I do other things when I don't.

What is the household chore you wish you were better about?

Vacuuming/swiffering. For some reason I just hate getting the vacuum out. It's nearly impossible to clean with a toddler running around, dropping crumbs of his snack on the floor as you are cleaning (so frustrating!), and the times when I do think about it, he is napping and I'm afraid to wake him up. I know there is a better way. I just haven't found it yet.

What gives you the most "mommy guilt"?

To be honest, this has gotten better as Mason has gotten older. Or maybe I've just come to the realization that it is a necessary evil. I used to have MAJOR mommy guilt when I would want to go to lunch with a friend on the weekends. Like the weekends were our only real family time since my husband and I both work all week and then I wanted to go out and spend time with friends. It's a never ending battle though really. I didn't want to neglect my friends but I didn't want to neglect my family either. And my husband was amazing about the whole thing. He never made me feel bad for wanting to go out and never told me I had to stay home. But I just felt bad myself. I've come to the realization though that even mom's need a little break and spending an hour or two away with a friend is good for everyone.

What gives you the most "mommy pride"?

Mason. Hands down. Just watching my learn, grow, and thrive gives me the biggest smile on my face. Somebody somewhere knew what they were doing when they let me be his mommy because I am just head over heels for this boy!

Again, a huge thank you to Jaclyn for letting me share my Motherhood from Every Angle on her blog! If you love her series and would like to participate, head on over to her blog, Beauty and the Binky, to contact her!

Marital Bliss!

Monday, March 23, 2015

Hi friends! Happy Monday!

Today you can find me over on Cocktails and Carseats guest posting for Jamie on her 'Marital Bliss' series.

A little sneak peak for you...

If you could go back in time before you had kids, what would be the one thing you would want to tell your past self, regarding your relationship?

I think Seth and I had a pretty great relationship before we had Mason, but if I were to give my post-marriage/pre-child self a little bit of advice, it would be this : do not take advantage of anything.

 Enjoy the date nights.
Enjoy the spontaneity.
Enjoy the carefreeness.
Enjoy the quiet.
Enjoy the sleeping in.
Go to Target and spend a little extra to get yourself some new nail polish and try a new bottle of wine.
Order an appetizer, a drink, and dessert when you go out to dinner.
Stay out too late.
Go on a weekend a venture just because.

Enjoy every moment and don't take advantage of being carefree because one day there will be a little man or little lady running around that needs you and you have to officially become an adult and be responsible (not that we were irresponsible before, but you know what I mean) :) It will be the best thing that has ever happened to you, but it will be different. Enjoy and cherish your time as a couple.

Head on over to her blog to check out the rest!

[Featured On] #BragOnDad

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

A couple weeks ago, Kary came to me with her idea for a new series she wanted to host on her blog. I immediately loved it and am lucky enough to be her first guest blogger today bragging about my amazing husband!

A sneak peek into my post...

From the minute we got home [from the hospital after having Mason], Seth was such a huge helper. And I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how hands on he would be. Though we have nieces, he rarely, if ever, changed a diaper. The main job of an uncle is to play with his nieces and he was excellent at that. But he dove right in. He volunteered to change diapers, he help feed him, and he woke up with me in the middle of the night, even if he wasn't the one doing the feeding. He was super hands on and loved every minute of it. I thought I loved him before we had Mason, but having a baby takes your love for your spouse to a whole new level.

Fast forward two and a half years and Mason has grown into this amazing, energetic, mischievous, fearless and fun little boy that we cherish spending every minute we get with him.

Although Mason and I have the special mother/son bond, my favorite thing is to just watch Seth and Mason interact. It can be the most simple thing -  be it rough housing on the floor, tickling him, throwing him in the air and onto the couch or even just putting together a puzzle - I love to see them together. I know Mason adores him but I do too.

Hop on over to Kary's blog to read my whole post!

A little sneak peek...

As a blogger, we put our lives out on the world wide web for all to see. What made you decide to start blogging? Do you ever fear you are sharing too much?
I started my blog shortly after Mason was born in 2012. And to be honest, looking back now, I wish I had started it from the minute I found out I was pregnant (well maybe not the minute, but you know what I mean). I started my blog to document Mason's life. It originally started out as a place for me to write about our days and updates with Mason so friends and family far away could keep up with what was going on with us. The blog has since grown into so much more, but still remains with my same purpose. I love that my blog is like an online scrapbook of Mason's life and I actually often refer back to old posts when someone asks "when did Mason first start crawling? or walking? or what was his first solid?". As much as I should remember off the top of my head, I have so much going on in there that it's nice to be able to refer back to something that can give me an exact answer.
Sometimes I do fear that I am sharing too much. I've heard so many horror stories of people getting pictures of their children stolen by random people and claimed as their own that it really scares me. The fact that someone can learn about your life through your blog, steal a picture of your child, and make it their own worries me. I've been lucky so far to not run into that problem (or at least that I know of) but I am looking into putting some sort of logo or watermark on my photos so nobody can do that.

And I can't leave you without a couple pictures of my sweet boy...
so here's a couple throwback Wednesday (yes, I just made that up!) pictures that I love love love!

[Featured On] The Girl in the Red Shoes : Breastfeeding Diaries

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

First of all, let me start off by saying thank you. Seriously. THANK YOU! Thank you all so much for all of your sweet comments yesterday. The way that women in this community encourage and lift each other up is why I felt comfortable sharing what I did. This week has been a little crazy so I wanted to make sure I said thank you but also know I do intend to respond individually to each of you as well.

Second, I'm so excited to share that I am guest posting on Julie's blog, The Girl in the Red Shoes, today for her Breastfeeding Diaries series.

A little sneak peak...

I'm a planner. I like to have things organized and know what will happen when. So when I was pregnant, I got information on maternity leave and benefits and all that fun stuff way in advance (earlier than my HR department thought I needed it, but hey, I wanted to be prepared). When I was pregnant, before I even had Mason, I knew I wanted to breastfeed. And I also knew that I would need to go back to work when he was three months old, which would lead to pumping at work. I had a lot of anxiety about where I would pump once I went back to work. I work at a bookstore at a community college and there isn't a lot of privacy anywhere. You see, we have security cameras...everywhere. Well everywhere except for the bathroom and offices that have too many windows or no doors at all. Obviously I wasn't going to pump in the bathroom or in an office with no door. So, I started planning early. I contacted the Director of the Health Center and she so graciously offered to let me to come over to pump whenever I needed to. I had my plan in place. I thought I had all my ducks in a row... I had a pump, I had the parts and the bottles, I had the place, and I had a fridge to keep the milk in. I was set...or so I thought.

Then, July 18, 2012 happened and I became a mom! It was the most amazing experience I had ever had. (You can read his birth story here). I knew I wanted to try to breastfeed him right away and the hospital and the nurses were all about that. They immediately brought him over to me and we started feeding. He actually did quite well the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. I even thought "wow, this breastfeeding thing is going to be easy!".

Ahh, naive first mom thoughts.
