Fri-YAY!

Friday, August 5, 2016

Hey, hey Fri-YAY! I'm so happy it's finally Friday. This week has been a doozy. On Monday morning, Mason came down with some sort of stomach bug. I ended up going to work late and Seth stayed with Mason who ended up feeling better as the day went on. Then Tuesday, I thought we were all doing well until halfway through the day when I started to feel terrible. And sure enough, so did Seth. BUT come Thursday, we were all on the up and up and everyone was back to their normal selves. THANK GOODNESS. So, needless to say, this week has been a complete waste of a week and I am even more behind on life than I was before. But hey, it's the weekend, no time for worries! Let's get to my extra random five for today.

ONE.
The Four Seasons Beverly Hills.

Last weekend I went to THE most beautiful wedding that I've ever been to - mine included. It was at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills and was the most gorgeous setting for a wedding. It started at 6pm which was the perfect time where it was still warm but not too warm and thankfully the hotel shielded us from the direct sun. I've never seen so many beautiful flowers before in my life. The food was excellent, the band was amazing, and there was a fun photo booth and a FULL open bar. Enough said.

Oh, and I'm preeeeeetty sure that Kym Johnson and Robert Herjavec got married there the next day. Guess I should have forked out the $400 to stay the night at the hotel -- I could have seen so many celebrities!

TWO.
PicMonkey and Canva App.

I recently saw that there was a PicMonkey and Canva app for the iPhone (maybe Android too but I have an iPhone and didn't check that?). I downloaded them since they were free, but haven't used them yet. Has anyone tried them? Like? Dislike? Do they work well?

THREE.
National S'mores Day.

If there ever was a national food holiday that was perfect for me, it is this. I'm so excited to announce that I'm partnering with some other bloggers next week to bring you some AMAZING s'mores recipes on national s'mores day. Stay tuned. You won't want to miss these!

FOUR.
Instagram Stories vs Snapchat.

Yep, I said it. I'm already kind of over it, but I have to say... I'm not sure I like the Instagram stories. I don't quite know how to explain it correctly but I always felt like Instagram was more of a "highlight reel" and snapchat was more of "real life". Not that my Instagram feed is drastically different than my life or anything and I honestly really do think I am the same "online" as I am in person, but I will be honest, my Instagram photos are edited. I do brighten the colors to make them look better. But... on snapchat? Not so much. You've got the flower crown and the pretty filter to try to help, but really I don't use them much. I usually just post silly little things about Mason dancing or saying something cute or causing havoc at the post office. Nothing exciting, but nothing edited or filtered either. And you know, sometimes I even go on a little rant about people not putting their shopping carts back (my pet peeve!). I've kept my snapchat name pretty quiet and really only my blog friends and my real life friends and family know my name and follow me there. I feel like it's more private and personal, and maybe that's just how I've kept it, but there's something about Instagram stories that seems so... public. And I know you can filter who sees your stories and such, but I feel like I am already so far behind on everything that I don't have time to carefully select who can see what I've snapped. So, for now, I think I will refrain, unless there's something really good I need to share. But I'm dying to hear... what do you all think?? Are you loving this new Instagram feature??

FIVE.
Olympics.

If you need me tonight, you can find me sitting on my couch watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I LOVE the Olympics! I've been asking when the Olympics start all summer so I'm totally excited they're finally on!

Happy Weekending!

  1. That wedding looks amazing. Wowza! So sorry you guys got sick this week, but thankfully ti was short lived. Yuck! I love s'mores so much and will definitely be enjoying them this weekend. I am excited there are apps for picmonkey and canva. I'm totally downloading them now. :)

  2. That wedding, WOAH! So pretty. Can't wait for Wednesday and all the s'morey goodness that will be shared. I think if a person was a loyal snap chatter the switch would be hard. I just can't get into snap chat. I've tried and tried but it just isn't me. On the other hand I think it is CREEPY to share intimate stuff with ALL of your IG followers. But I like the idea of being able to send specific people stuff on an app that I already use.

  3. I feel the exact same about IG/snapchat. I keep my snapchat name pretty quiet, too. I like having a smaller group there. IG doesn't need to see all my business! I've just used Canva on iPad, but I love it on there!

  4. That wedding looks great! I was surprised to see Instagram competing with snapchat. I don't want it there! I follow many people on Instagram and I don't need to see all of their snaps! Picmonkey keeps crashing my browser. So annoying.

  5. I don't like the Instagram story thing either. I'll stick with posting just pics there & doing stories on Snapchat (which I don't do too much of either).

That wedding looks amazing! So fancy. :)

    Have a good weekend!

  6. Agreed on snapchat/instagram! I love how intimate snapchat is. I just have very best friends and blog friends. No people I knew in high school or complete strangers. It's much more candid.

  7. I love seeing stories from like 3 people I didn't have on snap chat, so there is that. I've yet to feel the need to do my own story though. But then again I never get on snap chat lol.
Such a romantic looking wedding! Open bar, f yeah.

  12. Such a FANCY wedding! What fun! And we were all about the Olympics last night. Although watching it live made me realize how many commercials there are. Ugh, so annoying! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  15. I have to say that snapchat is my favorite social media app currently - I love seeing things closer to 'real time', plus I love all the videos. I don't know much about IG Stories- I haven't updated my app in a while so I'll have to check it out. What a gorgeous wedding! You so totally should've stayed the night, but $400 a night; wow. Might have been worth it to see all the A-listers though!

  16. Yea, I'm not jumping on the Insta-stories (or whatever it's called) bandwagon either! I feel the same way you do about it. That wedding...are you kidding?? So beautiful!!

  17. That wedding venue looked AH-MAY-ZING!!
August 10 you can bet I'll be partaking in a s'more or two. Like I need another reason to eat a s'more... HA!
I have to be honest. I never really loved Snapchat. It seems like it was just one more social media that kind of sucked me in. And, while I don't love the InstaStories, I do like that I can just check the gram and the snaps all in one place.
As for the Olympics. GIVE ME EVERY SINGLE SPORT ALL DAY LONG!

  18. Wow, what a wedding!!! And so glad you're feeling better. That is NEVER fun!!! Okay, so I'm kind of loving Instagram stories because I feel like I get to see the real side of some big bloggers I've been following forever. That sounds a little creepy and stalkerish, but you know what I mean, right?!? :)

  19. What a GORGEOUS wedding! I hope you had a great time!
I honestly never liked Snapchat. I felt like it was just going to be a fad like Vine and then die out for everyone except the teen crowd. Plus I didn't want another social media account to manage and take up more of my time. I haven't used the IG stories feature too much yet, but I do like the fact that it is all in one place!

  20. You & Seth were thee cutest couple at the wedding! And IG vs Snapchat... I'm dabbing in both and still unsure.

  21. So sorry you were all feeling ill! I hope you’re all back to 100% now. That wedding looked beautiful and you looked gorgeous! Love your hair and your dress. MMM s’mores! That’s a national holiday I can get behind! I tried both the pickmonkey and canva apps and didn’t care for them! I just deleted them. I guess I am stuck on a few editing apps that I love and have found my groove in!
