[Mini Vacation] Northern California : Days 3 and 4

Friday, June 3, 2016

And I'm back to share Days 3 and 4 of our mini vacation last weekend! A day late, because, I'll be honest, sleeping won over blogging Wednesday night. #lazy #priorities #honesty

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, after the wedding, on Saturday morning, we were supposed to go to the bride's parents house to have breakfast but... instead we ended up here :

Urgent Care.

Yep, Mason woke up with a reddish eye and I just knew it was pink eye. Instead of ignoring it and hoping it went away, I decided to be responsible and take him to urgent care to check it out. We were going to be visiting with a lot of people and I didn't want to potentially infect anyone else. So, off to urgent care we went. $105 and a pink eye diagnosis later, we were off to get Mason's prescription filled. (Side note : don't worry, I am in the process of getting the $105 "co-pay" situation fixed. Apparently they thought we were out of network (which technically we were) and since it was a weekend, they had to charge us the max, but I called our insurance and they are helping me fix it - thank goodness!)

We were finally able to find somewhere that had the drops in stock and then we stopped for some breakfast before we headed to my parents house. We warned them that Mason just came down with pink eye, but they wanted us to come anyway so we hit the road for the 2 hour trek from Roseville to Berkeley.

Once we got there, my step mom had prepared the most delicious picnic lunch that we took to the local regional park - Tilden Park. Even though I grew up mere minutes from there, I don't think I had ever been to Tilden Park, so it was a special treat for me too. We quickly ate lunch since someone was impatient (ahem, Mason) to ride the carousel and then took two trips around on the beautiful, 100+ year old carousel.

After we rode the carousel, we hopped in the car to head on over to the Little Farm area. Mason was in awe of all the animals and was SO EXCITED to get to feed the goats! I was just in awe of how green everything was! Even though the whole state is in a drought, Southern California seems to be getting hit the hardest and things just don't look as green here as they do up North.

After we walked around and saw all the animals, it was back in the car to find the steam trains. I thought Mason was excited about the animals, but he was over the moon for the train! The steam train was like a slightly bigger version of a mini train and was totally open on the side and top. It took us on a short ride through the beautiful redwoods. Again, I was in awe of the beauty of nature.

After the trains, we headed back to my Dad and step mom's house to get ready for dinner. We hung out and played with the dog for a bit and then my brother came over after work to have dinner with us. My step mom made the most delicious dinner (if you couldn't tell, she's an amazing cook) and we enjoyed spending the rest of the evening together.

My brother left shortly after dessert and Seth, Mason, and I all went to bed in preparation of getting up early on Sunday morning to drive back home. We woke up, had some breakfast, and then left around 8:30/9am. We got to LA around 3pm and hit some traffic and I immediately felt at home :) We got home home shortly after that around 4/4:30pm.

Overall, it was a great but short trip. We hope to go back again soon and spend more time hanging out with family and friends!

  1. Poor Mason. I'm so glad you guys didnt' wait it out and were proactive to get that taken care of. Pink eye is no fun, but I'm sure he's just fine now. :) Sounds like a great time with your dad and step-mom. I love that you had a picnic at a park. Smart lady! The farm looks like a great time. I love that you fed the goats veggies. Most places have pellets to feed them, but veggies are so much more fun.

  2. Pink eye sure didn't slow Mason down! I love how he was go-go even after a morning at the doctors.

  3. Sometimes being responsible sucks, but it is always the best choice. Glad that it all worked out and you were still able to have your fun.

  4. Too bad about the pink eye. It seems like it's going around! I've been hearing about a lot of people who have it. Good thing you still got to go though! I love old carousels!

  5. So glad your insurance helped you get that fixed! There's nothing worse than paying for medical care when you shouldn't have to.

  9. Pink eye. Fun on vacation. I loved it as a kid since you couldn't go to school but didn't feel sick. And clearly it didn't get Mason down! Love the tree stump pic =) Northern Cali looks so pretty. And I'd want to kill myself if we had your traffic situation.

  11. Pink eye?! I don't think I knew Mason got that on your trip. :( But, way to nip that in the bud!
Let's also talk about that amazing park, carousel, and TRAIN! There are little steam trains like that near us that run every few times a month. We went and they were the cutest little things!
Also. We clearly are getting hosed in the the rain department.

  13. Well you can't even tell Mason was plagued by pink eye one bit, what a happy, smiley boy you have! There's a park in the Los Gatos area that has a carousel and picnic tables and at first that's what Tilden Park reminded me of, so pretty! The best weekends are the ones that go by too quickly.

  15. Hope sweet Mason has fully recovered from the pink eye!! Yuck! That's not a fun way to spend vacation! He doesn't look too bothered by it in the pictures, though! Tilden looks like an amazing place! You got so many great photos, friend!
