Holidays Cards with Shutterfly.

Monday, December 11, 2017

Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by Shutterfly, but, as always, all opinions are 100% my own. #MyShutterfly #sponsored

By now, our holiday card should have arrived in everyone's mailbox, so I feel like I am free to share it on the blog with the rest of the world.

Every year, I look forward to this time of year because (1) I have an excuse to get us all dressed up and have a professional take our picture and (2) I get to choose our holiday cards. Pictures of the three of us are few and far between lately and I was especially excited to have Ali from Ali E Photography take our pictures this year. To see all of our family photos (mainly the ones that didn't make the holiday card), click here. I also LOVE this time of year because I get tons of HAPPY mail in the mail each day. Opening my mail box to find pictures of my friends and their families WAY trumps getting bills in the mail. (Insert all the praise hand emojis!)

This year I decided to go with Shutterfly for our holiday cards because of how excellent their customer service and their products have been in the past. While I haven't actually ordered any cards from them in the past, all of the other products (photo magnets, cell phone cases, etc) have been of excellent quality and I knew their holiday cards would be no different.

I had a hard time narrowing down which photo I wanted to use for the front of our card, but thankfully Shutterfly's "show my photo on every card" option helped me see which one looked best with each design. I also had a hard time narrowing down which card I wanted because they had so many gorgeous ones! From foil to glitter to the number of pictures on the front and/or back and so much more, they really do have it all. Going in, the one thing I did know was that I wanted my cards to be "holiday" themed and not "Christmas" themed. I send cards to friends and family who celebrate Christmas and/or Hanukkah and I wanted my cards to be versatile.

This is the card that I ended up choosing. I, personally, love for our picture to be the center of attention on the card, so I chose a slightly more subdued "happy holidays" theme and chose to only have one photo on the front of the card. A simple pop of red to balance out the blues and greens in our photo and I feel like it is a good mixture of holiday festive while still letting our picture shine. Then I chose a red and white snowflake design for the envelope inserts to really tie the whole thing together.

And because one picture on a holiday card just isn't enough and I HAD to share more of our family photos, I opted to put a few on the back as well paired with a message wishing our friends and family a happy holiday season and a happy new year.

Overall, I really love the quality that you get with these cards. The paper was thick, the photos were crisp, and I felt like I was really getting great quality for my money. While I didn't decide to take advantage of the option this year, I also love that you can create personalized stamps as well as return address labels so you cards fully coordinate. Instead I opted for the option for them to address the envelopes for me (I simply uploaded my address book in to my account) as well as include a return address. (Best. Decision. Ever.) Then I finished the envelopes off with some fun washi tape and some festive stamps that I bought at the post office.

A special thank you to Shutterfly for helping me create such beautiful holiday cards that I am proud to send to our friends and family this year. Hope our friends and family love our cards as much as we do!

Happy New Year! || Christmas + Hanukkah Recap || 2016

First and foremost, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's Eve and New Year's Day! We spent both doing pretty regular weekend stuff like taking a trip to Costco and then doing some laundry and being lazy around the house. Although maybe slightly boring, it was much needed and appreciated considering all the activities that went down last weekend.

I unintentionally took more than a week off blogging minus The Guys Behind the Blog post last week and while it was nice to unplug for a while (I didn't even touch my computer for four straight days - it was amazing), there's so much I want to share that I'm going to play a little catch up today. 2017 is going to bring some changes to the blog, but more on that later. For now, a little holiday recap.

December 24th, 25th, and 26th were a bit crazy for us since Christmas and Hanukkah fully over lapped this year. We spent the 24th celebrating Christmas with my brother in law's family (who we're very close with and are basically like blood family even though they technically are not). We spent the 25th celebrating with Seth's direct family. And we spent the 26th celebrating Hanukkah. It was a whirlwind three days and I'm pretty sure Mason got so used to opening presents that he thought every morning for the following few days that there should be more presents. Coming down off the holiday high is a bit depressing.

This post is going to be relatively picture heavy because really, that's the best way to share a holiday recap. I'm not going to share all the pictures because 1) you'd be scrolling through pictures for about an hour and 2) I'm not sure how everyone feels about their kids pictures on the internet. SO, without further ado...

Prepping desserts for the big day...

And baking fresh cookies for Santa!

December 24th - Christmas Eve

Seth spent the morning out with the boys seeing the new Star Wars movie, Rogue One. Mason and I spent the morning baking some muffins for dinner at my sister in law's and brother in law's and then made our way over to their house a bit earlier than everyone to start the party early. Christmas Eve is spent celebrating with my brother in law's side of the family and this year Seth's cousins came in from Arizona to celebrate with us so it was an extra big group of family, including nine kids (soon to be one more later this month!). It was insanely crazy and loud, but amazing and wonderful all at the same time.

We got home late that night, Mason put out cookies and milk for Santa, and Seth and I played Santa and ate the cookies and milk (Seth) and put together toys (me).

Making corn muffins to bring for dinner.

Appetizers.

Dessert table.

TONS of presents for the nine kids!

Mason insisted on TWO cookies for Santa and TEN carrots for the reindeer.

December 25th - Christmas

We spent the early morning hours of Christmas morning as our little family of three opening our gifts for each other. The majority of the gifts were for Mason, minus some stocking gifts for Seth and I, because we each got some larger gifts that we got earlier in the month. (Seth got a bed liner and a Tonno Cover for his new truck and I got the iPhone 7+ that I had been wanting so much!) After we finished opening up our gifts, we headed over to Seth's mom's house for breakfast around 9:30am and ended up staying and playing until around 3pm when we headed home for showers and to change in order to be back for dinner at 5pm. It was a relaxed yet busy and chaotic day filled with love, gifts, and tons of family... oh and MORE food!

Some fun Hanukkah hats that Seth's aunt and uncle had.

Nanny love.

The BIGGEST hug!

December 26th - Hanukkah

I was originally supposed to work on the 26th, but only because I wanted to. It's a crazy busy time at work and I thought I needed to go in to process some payments, but I was going to be the only one there and so I decided to take an additional day off. I paid for it the rest of the week, but I worked late, and got it all done, and that's all that my bosses really care about. It's all about give and take!

I'm so, SO happy that my work is so flexible because I got to spend the extra day with our out of town family going ice skating (Mason's first time!) and going to see Sing. We then headed back to my sister in law's house and celebrated Hanukkah with MORE presents and of course, MORE eating!

It was a whirlwind weekend filled with lots of presents and lots of eating and lots of family and was just perfect. It was crazy and chaotic at the time, but I wouldn't have it any other way and I'm already looking forward to next year!

And with that, it's officially back to reality and back to our normal schedule -- I'm off to work today, Mason is back to regular school, and lucky Seth is off work officially celebrating the holiday and hopefully watching the Rose Parade for all three of us.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

[Five on Tuesday] Christmas Festivities.

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

How about a little random for your Tuesday? I have a bunch of Christmas festivities that I've been wanting to share, but just didn't have time for my random Friday post, so, here we are, on Tuesday, with a random five on Tuesday for ya.

ONE.
Christmas Pajamas.

Some of my blog friends hosted a pajama party last week and while I don't have too many pictures of Mason in his Christmas pajamas, I did want to share these. I used MAJOR self control and only bought Mason three new pairs of Hanna Andersson pajamas this year. I know, I know, they are super expensive, but in my defense, they last FOREVER (he's still wearing his Valentine's Day ones to this day) and I happened to stop by on a major sale of 40% off, so I splurged... a little. Oops. Top picture are these, bottom picture are these, and not pictured are these (ninja gingerbread men!!!).

TWO.
Christmas Tree Picking.

(Skip this portion if I've already talked about this... but...) for the past couple years, we've gone to my favorite regional park to get our tree. It is slightly more expensive but benefits a local boy scout troop so I don't mind. This year we had planned to do the same, but like last year, Seth tried to be the voice of reason and say we should go to Home Depot and get one there instead. We actually tried Home Depot last year and I hate how they were all closed and I couldn't see what it looked like open before I bought it so I vetoed that this year. We were on our way to the park when we drove by a Christmas tree lot and Seth suggested we go there. I hesitated but then thought "hey we could save a couple bucks" so we went. This kid followed us around the whole time (which irked me) and they had no small trees AND they were more expensive than where I wanted to go, so we left, and went to the park. Once we got to the regional park, THERE WERE NO TREES. What??? I was devastated! I thought maybe we were just too early (we went the day after Thanksgiving) so as we left, I googled it, and they no longer do the Christmas tree farm!!! What??? I was devastated again! So, reluctantly, we headed to Lowe's. I had low hopes for finding one I'd like, but lo and behold, we found one! And I love it! I guess Lowe's trees aren't so bad after all...

THREE.
Advent Calendar.

I full on had plans to do the Elf on the Shelf for Mason this year. I even bought one on sale last year after Christmas! And then... things got hectic at the end of November and I never planned anything for the elf to do and I kind of dropped the ball. So, instead, I got this Thomas Minis Advent Calendar for him. I had to explain that he only got one per day and that didn't go over very well since he kept saying "two!" and I'd say "one!" "two!" "one!". I thought it was going well until day 2 when I put the calendar down, unintentionally in Mason's reach, when I turn my back and hear RIIIIIIIIIP. "Mason! No!". Yep, ripped the whole thing open. On day 2.

Better luck next year.

FOUR.
Christmas Train.

It's been a tradition of ours to go on the Christmas Train at our local regional park (the one where I used to get my Christmas tree). For the past couple years, we've gone with the Macke's and it's been SO FUN! This year was no different. We went on Friday the 9th and the boys had a blast hanging out at dinner and riding the train together. The pictures don't do it justice, but the way they light the place up with the lights is incredible. It's definitely a highlight of the Christmas season for us every year!

FIVE.
Christmas Present Wrapping.

This past weekend, I decided it was FINALLY time to start wrapping presents. I mean, there's less than a week until I need to deliver them, so might as well wrap them, right? And of course I had to update my Letterfolk board with one of my new favorite quotes that I saw on Instagram!

Mason insisted on helping wrap the presents which was more of a sh*t show than anything because he kept standing on the paper and ripping it and then pulling ALL of the tape out of the dispenser. Thankfully I was able to distract him for half the time and then told him he could add a bow to the packages when I was done. He INSISTED on TWO bows on each package, so as you can tell, our packages are EXTRA festive this year!

Ok, ok, so it's more like seven on Tuesday...

SIX.
Gingerbread Houses.

In Mason's new speech class, they made gingerbread houses last Thursday. I donated frosting and graham crackers and they did the rest. Mason came home with this giant thing after class and I was so excited! I mean, look at that face! He was SO proud!

Problem is... we were now on our way to school and work and I didn't know what to do with this wet, frosting covered gingerbread house. So I stuck it in a Target bag that I had in my car, with every intention of taking it out of the bag when we got home and displaying it, but then... in a spur of the moment decision, I decided we had no room to display it at home and tossed it in the dumpster when I got to work. (insert monkey covering eyes emoji here). I know, mom of the year, but at least he never asked about it when he got home from school so I never had to explain!

SEVEN.
Toys for Tots.

The bank that we go to for work has a Toys for Tots toy drive every year for Christmas. Normally my boss buys the presents and donates them himself, but this year he put me in charge. "Do you like shopping?" My co-worker laughs. Heck, I laughed too, but of course I said yes! So he put me in charge of getting the presents to donate. So late last week, I picked Mason up early from school, we headed to Target, we picked all our favorite toys, and we donated them to the bank. I was actually pretty impressed with Mason because I asked him what presents we should get, he helped picked them, and he never once asked for one for himself. I know he doesn't understand what 'donate' means, but when I asked if he wanted to bring toys to kids who didn't have any, he did say yes, so for being four, that's a win in my book. I sent the pictures to my bosses and they said Mason and I could do the shopping every year, so I'm already excited for next year!

And that's that! I seriously cannot believe there are only FIVE more days until Christmas...
