Happy New Year! Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

Happy New Year!!! I literally cannot believe that New Year's Eve and Day have come and gone. I swear this whole holiday season was gone in the blink of an eye. We've officially taken down all the Christmas decorations and our house is back to normal with the addition of a few (thousand??) new toys.

My New Year's weekend didn't start off the happiest when on Thursday I decided to go get a blood test that my doctor had ordered. Nothing weird, just your routine yearly check up blood test to make sure your cholesterol levels and all that fun stuff are correct. I made the mistake of thinking that a lab would be open on New Year's Eve which in retrospect, I think they actually were (???), but I never ended up getting the test. You see, the paper that my doctor gave me must have been old since the first place I went to still had the lab name on the door, but was closed and locked with no note that it was just for NYE. I called the phone number on the paper and it said it was out of service. I googled the next address and found out that it was close. I got smart this time and called to see if they were open and the lady said they were until noon, but apparently I wasn't smart enough to confirm their address because when I got there, even though the lab was listed on the directory, when I got to the door, it was listed as a doctor, and not a lab and when I called the phone number to ask the address, I got an answering machine. At that point I was pretty mad (read : texted Seth this).

I'm sure you can guess the word behind the blanks :) So needless to say, the weekend started off poorly, but ended significantly better than it started!

After the non-blood test blood test, I ran a couple errands and then headed home where we had moved up Mason's home ABA therapy session to the morning since it was NYE. The weather was so gorgeous that we took a walk to the park where Mason continued to rock it on his scooter. After that, we ran to Target to get some stuff and then headed to In n Out for one last fix before the new year. After all, the diet starts on January 1st right? (#sotheysay #notforme #oops)

We came home for Mason to nap for a couple hours before we headed over to our friends house for a quiet little get together/New Years's Eve party. We had some appetizers, some drinks, some dinner, and some desserts as well as played some Cards Against Humanity (best game ever) before calling it a night at around 9:45pm. Mason was a rockstar and stayed up all the way until 10pm when we got home and I'm convinced he would have made it until midnight if we would have let him.

New Year's Day we were up bright and EARLY for the Rose Parade. My brother in law's parents have a motor home and have gone up on NYE to Pasadena for many, MANY years and have secured an amazing place right on Colorado Blvd. We've been maybe five or so times and every year I regret saying that I want to go when I have to wake up so early (4:30am to be exact) but every year I LOVE seeing the floats up close and in person that I forget how early I had to wake up.

Once again, 4:30am came too early, but we woke up, got dressed, packed tons of jackets and hats, woke Mason up at 5:15am and headed to our brother in law's house to car pool to Pasadena. We arrived right around 6:30/6:45am, had some breakfast, watched the fly over, and hung out for a bit before making our way outside to watch the floats and the bands go by. The parade starts significantly further down the road from us so while you can watch it at 8am on TV, we don't get any floats until around 9am or so.

Last year, Mason really enjoyed it... or what he saw of it... because he ended up falling sleep about halfway through. But this year, he stayed awake for the whole thing and LOVED every second of it. He rotated between sitting with Seth in the first row and sitting with me in the second row, but he was totally engaged the whole time and loving seeing everything and taking it all in.

The floats are so, so gorgeous when you're that close to them and you can really see all the intricate designs. Almost every single part of the float is made out of flowers or seeds or some sort of plant and it always amazes me what people can do and make with plants. My very favorite float this year was the Disneyland float. It was HUGE, basically 3 floats connected by bridges, and it was amazing! First up was Frozen followed by Mickey and friends followed by Star Wars. These pictures DO NOT do it justice.

After the parade ended, we made some lunch, waited a while until it cleared out a bit, and then headed home. We got home around 2:30-3pm, came home for a bit, and then headed over to Seth's mom's house for the first family dinner of the new year.

Saturday, Mason had his ABA therapy at the learning center so Seth and I dropped him off and went to Starbucks, Target, and Costco. We had some lunch and then went over to Toys R Us that's closing to see if we could get a good deal on a railing for Mason's new big boy bed. We picked Mason up at 2pm, brought him home for a nap, Seth watched a movie, I blogged a bit, and then we dropped him off with Nanny for a sleepover with his cousins so Seth, my brother in law, sister in law, and I could all go out to dinner and a movie - a nice little double date night! We went to the fancy movie theater with reclining seats and with waiters that bring you drinks. I got a pomegranate martini but it came just as the movie was starting and I couldn't get a picture (#bloggerproblems). We saw Sisters and it was SO SO funny! I highly recommend it.

Sunday was spent finishing up the laundry, doing a little grocery shopping, hanging out, and watching football. It was a definitely lazy day, but we definitely needed it after all the fun we had this weekend.

Thankfully New Year's Day was on a Friday (although I felt like it was Sunday ALL DAY LONG) because it gave us two additional days for fun during the "actual weekend" and a chance to rest a little before going back to work for a full week on Monday. And here we are. Our first full week of the new year. Let's make it a good one! Happy Monday!

  1. I would have been boiling about the blood work mess too! Ugh! I hate when that happens. I'd much rather hang out with friends on New Years than go out and party somewhere. You had a fun and busy time this week. Love that movie theater!! Have a great week!

  2. Ugh your blood work story would have pissed me off too! I should use all caps in my texts more often too! Those floats are amazing, especially the Star Wars ones! And I was impressed how late Noah was up on New Year's Eve too! We stayed at our friends' house til 10 and Noah didn't even have a nap that day! He did however immediately fall asleep in the car ;). New Years being right before the weekend was pretty awesome. I kind of feel like today is really the first of the new year... To start the resolutions at least :).

  4. So happy your weekend ended better than it started! Yay for double dates! Luke & I saw Star Wars, which I've only seen one with Natalie Portman when I was like in 7th or 8th grade. This new one was awesome!

  6. Besides the start, everything else sounds pretty dang good. I am SO jealous that you get to see the Rose Parade in-person. JEALOUS! Plus, that burger looks delish, I want it.

  7. So much fun! I have plans to get see Sisters but thanks to sick children they keep getting pushed. Maybe one day this month ;)
I would have lost my shit with the whole lab mix-up. I don't do well with things like that. James always double checks addresses and locations for me when I have to go somewhere for the first time because he knows I'll panic and freak out if I get lost or am late. OCD at it's finest, really!
Also? I think the 2016 photo of Mason is my all time favorite. It simply makes me happy!

  8. How frustrating for all of the run around for your labs. I am so thankful my lab is connected to my dr’s office since I have to give blood almost every 6 weeks (hypothyroidism). I am loving the picture of Mason in front of the brick wall. So precious!! Cards against Humanity is our favorite game. It’s hilarious (and so very bad!). We have the deluxe edition and the 1st and 6th series. I want them all! The parade looks awesome. Y’all were so close! Nathan and I saw Sisters, too, and loved it. So freakin’ funny! Happy New Years friend!!

  9. Haha those New Year glasses are just the best ever. I have always thought it would be so cool to see the Rose Parade, so neat that you are able to go. I've never heard of Against Humanity but I did learn to play Liars Dice this New Year Eve!

Looks like 2016 is off to a good start!

  10. OH man, I would have been super mad too! At least the rest of your weekend was good! We had In and Out this weekend too :) I've always wanted to go to the Rose Parade...maybe when my kids actually want to watch it. We went to Knott's and boy was it crowded!

  12. I loved seeing the parade on your Snap! And I would have totally lost my mind from that blood clinic situation. Hopefully when you actually decide to go, it will be (literally) painless!

  14. I would have been furious about the blood draw issues!! I'm pretty sure had I gotten ahold of someone they would have gotten a piece of my mind. How annoying!

The Rose Parade. I want to go - in. the. worst. way. One of these years we're going to make it happen! It just looks so dang amazing.

2016 is shaping up to be a pretty good year, can't wait for all the fun it's going to bring!!
