[Thoughts on Thursday] Confessions

Thursday, April 21, 2016

I know Confessional Thursday has been cancelled due to Jess's privacy being invaded, but I wanted to share some confessions anyway.

That being said... I confess...

... that, first and foremost, what happened to her makes me SICK. The fact that someone thought it was ok to steal her pictures, basically steal her life, and literally impersonate her just makes me sick to my stomach. Terrible.

... that I did some spring cleaning on Instagram and unfollowed some people earlier this week. And I must confess... it felt good! I found myself skipping some people's photos often, not enjoying what some were sharing, and just not knowing who some people I had followed in the past were. Time for a little spring cleaning!

... that speaking of unfollowing on Instagram, I'd like to note that I've never had the "unfollow" app and I never will. Instagram is fun for me. I like posting pictures of my kid and... whatever else strikes my fancy. If you don't like it, unfollow. That being said, do I like it when I gain new followers myself?  Of course.  Do I like getting likes and comments on my pictures? Definitely. Who doesn't? But other than that, I don't take it too seriously. However, to each their own, I don't judge. But, for me personally, I don't need to know who is following and unfollowing. Life's too short for me to worry about a social media that much.

... that I'm 98% sure that my kid is more tan that I am. Yes, it's true. My three year old has a better tan on his arms AND his legs than I do. He takes after Seth!

... that I went to Starbucks 5 times this week... within the first 4 days. I didn't really realize it until I started thinking back. We stopped by Starbucks after work on Sunday. I went on my way to work on Monday. I went on my way to pick up Mason for ABA on Tuesday. I went on my way to work on Wednesday and then again before an appointment that I had that afternoon. I think I have a problem. #cantstopwontstop

... that speaking of said Starbucks... I might have gotten a hot drink yesterday morning JUST for the cup. Maybe. I will not confirm or deny. #itstrue #imembarrassed We had a high of 90 degrees so I'm pretty sure an iced drink would have been the smarter choice, but seriously? I love these new cups!

... that is it just me or do other people take approximately 2187823671 pictures before they get the perfect picture too? Please tell me it's not just me!

.... that I took about 52 pictures before I got a good one. Ok, ok, maybe 52 is an exaggeration. But not by much! These are some of the small groups of photos that I've taken before I found "the one". Now, I admit that probably almost half of them are usually a burst of pictures, but still, there are a lot more than there probably should be.

Can you relate to any of my confessions?

  1. Ha ha!! I love your confessions! I was cracking up with the ones at the end. I actually enjoy spring cleaning my social media talk. I am so sad and sickened by what happened to Jess. I'm afraid a few of my favorite small bloggers are going to throw in the towel due to it too and it makes me sad.

  2. I feel so bad for Jess! Weird thing is this is the first time I participate and I had no clue it was cancelled! And I can totally relate to the number of photos in order to get a good one. Bursts are my friend. And on that note it drives me crazy the Chris doesn't use bursts!

  3. Come on Starbucks make cute iced cups too! I too, have ordered a hot drink just to get one of the cute cups!! My camera roll is filled with identical pictures too!

  4. I don't follow Jess, but talk about so scary!
As for IG - I randomly go in and clean house, and each time I do I love it.
Those 'Bucks cups!! I haven't seen those at any of the stores near us. So lame.
And I totally take a ton of pics before getting "the one!"

  5. I need to clean IG house too! And oh man. The perfect picture struggle is real. Lex doesn't get it. She's always like you took ONE picture? Let's move on?

  6. I need to clean up my IG also. My camera phone feed looks just like yours, and I never get a good pic, ugh!

  7. I definitely didn't hear about Jess' situation, but holy cow, that's terrible! Do you happen to know how she found out someone was using her stuff? That's a fear of mine too- I don't know if someone is using my photos or identity online. :(
I too need to clean up my IG- thanks for the reminder!

  8. I sometimes worry about my stuff getting stolen... Pretty scary. I love that Starbucks cup too! And I recently cleared out my Instagram and Twitter accounts. I needed help on Twitter, it took too long otherwise!

  9. I am so sad for Jess. It’s frightening that it could happen to any of us. I thought about posting my confession anyway, too, but needed to get a bucketlist update posted before its summertime! Ha. I really need to do an IG spring cleaning, too. Oh Mason is definitely more tan than I am, for sure. Nate tans really easily, too. I stay pale year round. Ugh! I can’t blame you one bit for getting a hot drink. That cup is awesome! They should make those in those reusable $2.00 cups. I’d buy a few! And yes, I take a cagillion photos so that I will have at least one I like. Mason is so cute!

  10. gahhh! I can't believe her photos were stolen and she's being impersonated, it makes me sick and it's my biggest fear! I too have never had the unfollow app, I think it's ridiculous. Instagram is fun for me too but I do want to grow my following just for more opportunities, but slow and steady is my motto, no paid apps and stuff like that :) I need to clean out my following too though because I am having so much trouble keeping up with everyone (as you know) because I'm not seeing it all!!

I too take a gazillion photos to get the perfect one and half the time when I go through it ends up being the first shot that was the perfect one. LOL I have like 5 memory cards on the go at all times!

  11. I don't even know what the unfollow app is!! Haha!

I cleaned house this week too. It felt good!!

  12. Won't you get bonus stars for being there multiple days in a row?!

I agree a little Instacleaning does the feed good!

  13. I did some IG cleaning the other week. I also follow like 4 billion accounts though, so it didn't do much for seeing all the posts. I have notifications for faves though. It kind of works.
I randomly stopped drinking coffee right after my birthday. I had one more when we were at Hollywood Studios because I needed my last mug, might as well have a coffee too. I just had so much coffee my birthday week that I got coffee-ed out. It's very odd.
I always take 70 pics of the same thing. Aria moves. It gets blurry. esp on the phone, but I don't like to take phone pics because the quality is terrible when I put it into a photo book. I still take 50 pics of the same thing on my camera though. Esp now that I'm trying to use my manual settings more. It takes 20 shots to get the settings right.

  14. Randomly, I think I just started following you on Instagram today! Ha! That's weird that there's an unfollow app. Who has time for that?? Yes, I am guilty of taking a million pictures before finding one acceptable...and even then, it's still not what I wanted. I'm working on this not ruining special moments!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yep, I have the same picture taking issue!!! #bloggerproblems And there's an unfollow app?!? Goodness, I don't have time to worry about that stuff either!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nope, I take that many photos, as well! And seriously about the unfollow app?? I've never even heard of it, but yikes, I'm sure I've been busted once or twice! (I, too, clean up my IG every now and then!)

  17. First of all, I love the pictures of Mason in his lil hat. When did he get so big?!

Secondly, I love cleaning house on social media. I've done it before on Facebook & it's probably about time that I should do it again. :)

  18. Honestly the entire thing with Jess is a daily struggle with me & part of why I've scaled back on blogging lately. Fearful. Especially with Lily getting older and such. Boys are different. They change so very much appearance wise.
Lily is so much tanner than I am and summer isn't even here yet! It's ridiculous!
5,000 shots right here for the price of one for sho'!!! ;)

  19. It is really scary what happened to Jess. I really need to start putting watermarks over my pictures...but who has time for that. It's just scary.

I've never heard of that app! Yea, I wouldn't care anyway, either!

And yes. My husband actually looked in my deleted picture folder and was like, did you mean to delete all of these?? Yep, they weren't what i wanted! ha!

  20. ugh. I am now going to clean up my instagram. I don't follow a ton of people and I keep mine private, because Im so nervous but I still think I need a clean up!

  21. Ooooooh my gosh! That is so terrifying! I keep entertaining the idea of bowing out of blogging and my IG account because of all the creepers out there! The more I hear about this, the more I'm leaning towards it because I do share so much of our life and I do share all the photos of my babies... Ugh. I just have a hard time leaving because of all the friendships/connections, etc! But then again, I haven't experienced being violated (that I know of) and have the mama bear in me come out. (Although hearing stories like is what pushes me closer and closer to quitting!)
I don't have that app, either, and never will! No need to make myself stress over why so-and-so unfollowed me, etc!

  22. It's always shocking to me when people impersonate someone online. I was once a part of an online community where someone spent an entire year pretending to be someone else. They put so much detail and effort into lying, and I just don't understand why they wouldn't put all that effort into something productive and useful.

  23. I was so grossed out by Jess' story! What I'm really curious about is how she found out.

I looovvveee cleaning up my instagram. If I know you at all I will be your friend on facebook, but instagram is my eye candy. It's really not personal if I unfollow you. Especially with what I'm going through right now, I don't really need to see your DAILY, yes daily, baby belly update pictures and every single item of newborn clothing you purchase.

  24. So scary what happened to Jess, but as we all talked about, we need to see the bright side of blogging too.

And I totally don't blame you on the hot drink - the new cups are the best!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I can 100% relate to the tan kid! Myles has the most beautiful olive complexion and tans perfectly, never a burn. He definitely gets it from his dad because me, I'm white or burned and that's my only two options lol

  26. Aint no shame in pretty much all your confessions! You just introduced me to the new SB cups and they are darling, we had rain yesterday I can totally get a hot drink now ;) Ugh, there are some seriously sick people out there, so terrifying. I don't know Jess but I hope she knows we all support her.

  27. So terrible she had her pictures stolen :( I never understand why someone would bother or care to pretend to be someone else, doesn't make sense. And so unfair.

  28. So I am just now reading this and obviously everything has snow balled since this post. All of this just flat out ticks me off that some jerk wads would do this. It just plain sucks.

That said yahoo for the Starbucks. Sounds like a sure fire way to a great week if you ask me.

  29. I totally take a hundred and one pictures before I get the perfect one but ALL of those pics of Mason wearing the hat are perfection!! And I agree that it's abolsutely insane how scary blogging can be. The situation totally blows my mind!

  30. Oh man, the Internet.. I've made my IG private and contemplating my blog, not sure where I will go from here. Sucks. :( Ha! Love the sequence of pics, there's always quite a few before the 'perfect' one, BUT there are usually some 'awful-good' ones in the mix too that are fun to look at.
