[Stitch Fix] Fix #3

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Back in December, when everything was crazy hectic, I got my 3rd Stitch Fix. I swear it never gets less exciting every time I see that email that the fix has shipped. I know there is a way to peek at the shipment once you get the tracking information email, but I never do. As much as I want to know what's in that box, I LOVE the surprise too much to peek.

In case you haven't heard of Stitch Fix, it's basically a personal shopping service. You fill out your online profile by answering some questions about likes/dislikes, style, sizing, etc and then can write a note about what you're interested in as well as link a Pinterest style board to help your stylist know what you're looking for and what you're style is. Then your personal stylist gathers some items that she thinks you'd like and sends them to you. You try them on in the comfort of your own home and decide what you do and don't want to keep and then you have three days to send back whatever you don't want. Easy peasy! The styling fee is $20 and if you send back all the items, you lose the $20. If you keep one (or more) items, they deduct the $20 styling fee from your total and you pay the difference. And if you keep all five items, they deduct the $20 from the total and you get a 25% discount on all the items. Pretty great! If you're interested in signing up, if you want to use my referral code then I'll get small credit to my account and will be forever grateful.

Now... on to my fix! (I decided to include as much information as possible in case my stylist (hi Amy!) reads my blog and/or in case I could help other's with sizing and stuff for their potential future fixes)

Look by M | Cliff Checkered Woven Infinity Scarf | $34.00

I'm not even sure that I put in my style profile that I love scarves, but my stylist, Amy, hit the nail on the head with this one! I LOVE this scarf! While I do have one with similar colors already, the one I have is floral, and this one most definitely is not. This scarf is also a lot "cozier" than any scarves I have in the sense that it hugs around my neck more than the others I have. Most of the scarves that I have hang down, so I liked the style of this one too. It's also super, super soft! I actually wore this scarf the other night for the first time when I went to dinner and the movies with my brother in law, sister in law, and Seth. We sat outside to eat and the scarf helped keep me warm. Definite winner!

Verdict : Kept.

Market & Spruce | Sawyer Space Dye Dolman Sleeve Knit Top | Size : M | $58.00

When I first saw this shirt in my fix, I was super excited - another dolman! I had asked for another dolman in my fix because I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Corinna dolman from my second fix. When I first saw the pattern, I wasn't overly excited, but once I tried it on, I really liked it. I do have a long sleeve sweater that is similar (the one I wore for our family photos), but that one is long sleeve and this one is 3/4 sleeve so I thought I could justify adding this shirt to my wardrobe (#girlmath). However, when I tried it on, the material just felt kind of ... cheap to me. I don't really know that cheap is the right word, but for $58, I kind of expected better quality material. This material felt like it would snag at a second's notice. And with a toddler, that just won't do. So, while I'm still obsessed with the dolman style, and do love the color/pattern of this top, I reluctantly had to return it.

Verdict : Returned.

Loveappella | Febe Crochet Detail Knit Top | Size : M | $48.00

When I saw this shirt, I thought it was cute. It's black, it's flattering, it's a soft material, and it's definitely something I would wear.... back in college to a party or something. I mean, I like to dress cute now still, but the reality of it is, I just don't very often. Or well, don't go anywhere that I'd need a shirt like this to dress cute. I loved the lace detailing on the sleeve, but am not too sure how I feel about showing my shoulder, so while it would be a cute "going out" shirt, I didn't think I would ever, or hardly ever, have the need to wear something like this, so I decided to send it back.

Verdict : Returned.

Loveappella | Jolli Knit Top | Size : M | $58.00

When I saw this in the box, I wasn't sure how I felt. I don't usually like stripes, but the dolman from my second fix that I love has stripes on it, so I thought I'd give it a shot. The material was super soft and I liked the color. But then I picked it up. And I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the back. But I tired it on anyway and again, I liked the front, but didn't like the back. If it was fully closed, I would have TOTALLY kept it, but I just didn't love the style of the back. I've also heard from a couple people that it snags super easily, so I think I made the right choice.

Verdict : Returned.

Dear John | Marson Wide Leg Jeans | Size : 10 | $78.00

These I actually contemplated over. They were SUPER comfortable on and fit really fell. But the wide leg style... I just don't know. I recently tried skinny jeans and am kind of obsessed (read : wear them everyday) so I worried that if I kept them, I wouldn't wear them. Though I do need some jeans to wear over my Ugg boots so I tried them on with them, but ultimately I think they were too long and would need some tailoring. If they weren't so long and were maybe slightly more straight leg than wide leg (these pictures don't really show just how wide leg they really are), I probably would have kept them.

Verdict : Returned.

So, if you're keeping track, overall, I only ended up keeping 1 out of my 5 items. I was slightly disappointed that I didn't keep more but I feel good about my choices. And... I've already scheduled my next fix! I'm slightly obsessed with the service and get so excited about my fixes arriving. I swear it is like Christmas morning every time a box arrives on my door step!

So, tell me... do you agree with my choices? Would you have kept any of the items?

  1. When I got my box, I only kept my scarf as well. I am pretty sure with every box they send, if there's a scarf, I'm keeping it ;) #addicted.

I like the Jolli Knit Top! But I'm a fan of gray and stripes.

  2. I LOVE that scarf!!! I got the same striped shirt and LOVED it until it snagged on EVERYTHING!! Bummer because it was super comfy. I either open my box and LOVE everything then return it all or HATE It then keep it all...haha! I guess that's the fun of getting the box!! LOVE that scarf; I am totally requesting it next time!! Good choice, girl!

  3. I agree with the scarf! It's fabulous. But, I kind of like the Jolli top. Gray & white is my jam and I'm a fan of the back of it. :)

  4. LOVE that scarf on you, very pretty. I actually like that Jolli striped split-back sweater top, but I think if the split were in the middle of the back, instead of to the side, that'd be better. Fun fix!! :)

  5. I LOVE that scarf. I totally want it. Ha ha! I really liked the Jolli striped sweater. It looked great on you, but I understand not being sure about the back. I would have questioned it too. Great fix! Looking forward to the next one.

  7. Oh, I love the scarf and the split-back top! I want that one, but I understand why you'd return it. The dolman looks great on you - too bad it wasn't a better fabric. That style is really flattering on you. And I love the fancy black top, but I wouldn't have anywhere to wear it either.

  10. I'm obsessed with the scarf! And while everything looks great on you and could give you a reason to keep everything, I totally get your reasons for returning each item. And I'm a skinny jean fan too, so I doubt I'd wear the flares either.

  12. I agree with all your choices. I love the wide leg jeans to but in reality they just feel so out of style, right?! So I am right on board with you if we agree on that we have to be right. I am so bad with all of this trendy stuff.

LOVE that scarf though, keeper for sure!

  13. So glad you kept the scarf! It looks like you. Does that make sense?
I loved that gray and white top! But, if you don't think you'll ever wear it then you certainly made the right choice. That black top was so cute! But, like you, where to wear it?
Can't wait to see your next fix!!

  14. I second like every review you gave. I definitely do not understand those split back shirts. It's like they forgot to sew it or something. Love that scarf!!! I love me a good fancy black shirt, but sadly I wouldn't have a single place to wear it!!!

  15. It tickled me that they included a graphic on how to wear an infinity scarf! Lol. You look super cute in it too (duh) Yeah, Im not sold on wide leg pants either, I feel they make me look wide rather than flatter. I really like that striped sweater, funny back and all, Im a little striped obsessed. Do you use the same stylist every fix?

  16. I think you made the right decision in keeping just the scarf. After all, if that's the only thing you really love, then it's worth the money:) Keeping anything else wouldn't be worth it. I think you could definitely pull off a flare leg Jean, but those just look too big on you. So I'm glad you sent them back. I have a great pair of flares from Nordstrom that only flate toward the bottom so they are very slimming - remind me to send you a link if you want to check them out (they're a good price too!) Can't wait for your next fix!!!

  17. That scarf is to die for! I love it! I want it! Also, all those tops were pretty cute as well. I know two gals that did that for a little bit as well & it was fun to see what they got as they got them mailed to the office. :)

  20. I love that black top! It's a little pricey but it's so cute! I totally see why you didn't keep it though. There's no use spending all that money if you don't plan on wearing it!
