[Stitch Fix] Fix #9

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

It's fix reveal day! One of my favorite days!

In case you haven't heard of Stitch Fix, it's basically a personal shopping service. You fill out your online profile by answering some questions about likes/dislikes, style, sizing, etc and then can write a note about what you're interested in as well as link a Pinterest style board to help your stylist know what you're looking for and what you're style is. Then your personal stylist gathers some items that she thinks you'd like and sends them to you. You try them on in the comfort of your own home and decide what you do and don't want to keep and then you have three days to send back whatever you don't want. Easy peasy! The styling fee is $20 and if you send back all the items, you lose the $20. If you keep one (or more) items, they deduct the $20 styling fee from your total and you pay the difference. And if you keep all five items, they deduct the $20 from the total and you get a 25% discount on all the items. Pretty great! If you're interested in signing up, if you want to use my referral code then I'll get small credit to my account and will be forever grateful.

For this fix, I had requested an all shorts fix. At this point, it was still SUPER hot in Southern California like everyday and I had been wearing my very favorite Kut from the Kloth jean shorts pretty much around the clock so I thought I better branch out and get some new styles. I know asking for all shorts might not always be possible (depending on their inventory), so I noted that to my stylist and just asked for warm weather clothes if she couldn't send all shorts. Well... my stylist delivered! Here's the note that she left me.

Oh and good news! I kept the receipt again this time (I'm on a two fix streak! lol) ANDDDDD I kept the style cards! Woohoo. I give myself a pat on the back for that one -- ha!

So anyway, now... on to my fix!
I normally try to include as much information as possible in case my stylist (hi Amy!) reads my blog and/or in case I could help other's with sizing and stuff for their potential future fixes, but let me know if you have any additional questions.

Kut from the Kloth | Corynne Boyfriend Denim Shorts

Size : 10 | Color : Blue | $68

When I first opened my box and saw so many COLORS of shorts, I was excited and scared. I mean, some of them were bright -- like these ones! But I kept an open mind and tried them on and picked out outfits that I thought would go with them. And here we are. A black top and blue shorts. Ha! Very "think outside the box" of me, right? Overall, the shorts fit great! They fit like the green shorts that I got in my last fix, mainly because they are the same brand and same cut. I also didn't end up hating the color as much as I thought I would at first glance, but I just didn't really love them. I didn't think I would wear them that much since I am not very adventurous in terms of pattern mixing and color mixing and I thought I would just wear them like I did in this picture. So, ultimately, for the price, I didn't love them enough to keep them.

Verdict : Returned.

Kut from the Kloth | Corynne Boyfriend Denim Shorts

Size : 10 | Color : Red | $68

Red shorts! Red. SO bright red shorts. I thought I would hate these IMMEDIATELY. I mean, I don't wear red bottoms! I barely even wear red tops! But that's the beauty of Stitch Fix. It makes you think outside of your comfort zone. So I tried them on and didn't hate them! In fact, looking back on this picture, I think this outfit is super cute! But the problem was, like the blue ones, I didn't know what kind of other outfits I would wear with them and they still were super bright to me. They fit well and I felt comfortable in them in terms of fit but the brightness got me, and ultimately, for the price, I didn't love them enough to keep them either.

Verdict : Returned.

Kut from the Kloth | Lonnie Distressed Boyfriend Denim Shorts

Size : 10 | Color : White | $68

White shorts. Never in a MILLION years did I think I would even remotely like white shorts. No way, no how. I don't wear white bottoms! I have a four year old. Do you know how dirty white gets? And then I tried them on. And holy cuteness. I loved them! Only problem was... they were too small. I'm not really sure how that works since the blue denim shorts from KFTK that I have are this size and all the other shorts fit in this size but maybe because they are white jean shorts, they are tighter? I have no clue. But I emailed  customer service to see if I could exchange them and they didn't have any in the next size up. Whomp whomp. I was super disappointed. So back they went. BUT I was able to find them on Nordstrom's website (on sale!) so I snatched them up. They came while I was on vacation and I still need to try them on but I'm excited about them!

Verdict : Returned.

Kut from the Kloth | Kristine Bermuda Shorts

Size : 10 | Color : Black | $68

I had been HOPING for black shorts!!! Like so badly. I've been asking for them for the past two fixes so I was so excited to see them in this fix. At first I thought they were super cute, but then I tried them on and I just don't think the bermuda style is for me. I tried to roll them up and make them shorter and they were just too tight on my legs and didn't look right. I was so disappointed, but I sent them back.

Verdict : Returned.

Pixely | Damiel Burnout Mix Media Hem Knit Top

 Size : M | Color : Black | $48

The one shirt in my box full of shorts. It's super cute with the mixed media and the "see through" part on the bottom! I loved the shirt when it came out of the box. And also, not pictured, there was a cute zipper down the upper top portion on the back. I loved it! But then I tried it on and I was so confused on what to do with the see through part. Surely you can't not wear anything under, right? That's a bit scandalous for me. So I paired it with a tank top under and I just didn't love it. The pattern was super cute and then fit was great, but again, for the price, I just didn't love it.

Verdict : Returned.

So, if you're keeping track, overall, I ended up keeping... nothing. Whomp whomp. I kind of felt like I could have kept the whole box or I could have kept none of it. I liked everything, but I didn't love anything, if that makes sense. And for Stitch Fix prices, I'll be honest, I have to love it in order to keep it. So, I decided that I would lose my styling fee and hope for a better box next time. I've already scheduled the next one to come and it should be arriving later this week -- my birthday fix!! WOOHOO. For this fix, I really left no note and asked my stylist to surprise me. I mentioned that it was for my birthday but not to celebrate my birthday (I didn't want anything too fancy if she thought we were going out) and that I hoped that it would be a 5/5. No pressure, right?! I'll let you know what I get!

So, tell me... do you agree with my choices? Would you have kept any of the items that I sent back?

  1. I loved the blue shorts and the red ones, but I understand about the bright color. The white ones were cute, but I can barely get away with a white shirt and my kids, so shorts are out of the question. Ha ha!

  2. I really like the outfits you made with these items. Too bad you didn't keep any, but good job shopping nordstrom!

  3. Okay I love all of the shorts you returned, especially the blue and red ones! But I know what you mean. For SF prices, you really have to love them!!! And I agree about that top. Cute in theory, but a little weird in reality. Unless you're 16 and comfortable with showing off your perfectly toned belly! ;)

  4. It's a bummer when you don't like everything, or they don't fit as planned!
But I did love the red or blue shorts! I used to think wearing red on my lower half was crazy too, but as I've gotten older, I realize life's too short not to wear the fun clothes!!

  5. I think my fave are the red ones. They are really flattering on you, the blue and the white as well. Not so much the black. I couldn't do the white on the bottom though. I'd have to check my butt every minute to make sure I didn't sit on something. And I'd have no idea what to do with that top either, it is pretty though.

  6. I agree with your choice, such a bummer that nothing worked out. I need to try this fix again! I have a $20 credit so I wouldn't be wasting any money if it doesn't work out. :) I just love reading stitch fix posts. They're my favorite.

  7. Those prices are what's stopping me from getting stitchfix. If you don't mind me asking what price tier did you choose? I'm all about the cheaper the better but am worry it will still not be what I want to pay.

  8. Wow, this was definitely a box of shorts! So glad you were able to find the white shorts in your size. They look great on you. And I like the red ones too. My mind went to Texas Rangers and all the Rangers gear I could wear with them! Bummer there were no keepers in this box. Maybe that just means your next fix will be all keepers?!

  9. Sad you didn't love any of them! I love Kut shorts so I probably would have kept one of those, but if you don't love them they aren't worth it. Maybe next month!

  10. I loved the clothes when I tried Stitch Fix, but they were pricier than I am used to. I will say, the quality is great though.

I'm still kicking myself for the pants I returned because they were too much :(

  11. I love the blue shorts on you! Even though you didn't keep anything, I love that you still got the white shorts from Nordstrom. Although I don't think I could do white - I'd always be worried something would get stuck to the back! I agree about the top - kinda funky. I wouldn't have kept it either.

  12. Yea, all those shorts...hmmm. I'm not one for colored shorts or pants. I'm pretty boring that way. Ha!

  13. That's a bummer, but I agree with your choice not to keep any of them. Hopefully you have better luck next time! And I still love your hair!!!

  14. I loved the first three shorts!! But, as you well know, I'm a girl who loves herself a colorful pant :p I have a box coming next week for my birthday fix too! Hooray!

  15. Oh man! Such a bummer nothing worked! I couldn't justify crazy colors at such a high price point. I do have maroon, blue and white shorts but I definitely didn't pay almost 70 a pair for them and I probably only wear them a handful of times each summer. I agree with your decision!

  16. Liz! You should have TOTALLY kept one of those colored shorts. I thought they both looked SO CUTE on you! The red with the denim was an awesome outfit! But, if you didn't love them then you made a solid decision.
I'm with you on the Bermuda style. I want to love them, they look good on so many people. But me? Nope.
    Here's to another fix!!

  23. I kinda loved the red & the white shorts & the top on you, but the price is such a big factor! Hopefully the next fix is better!
