Mason's Favorite iPad Apps, a Kidloland Review, + a Giveaway!

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

About a year and a half ago, I shared this post on Mason's favorite iPad apps. I'd say almost all of the apps that were his favorite back then are still his favorite now with a couple additions.

Now, I know technology and kids can be a touchy subject, but in our house, we do allow Mason to use the iPad or watch TV occasionally during the day. I mean, how else can I load the dishwasher without every item that I put in being constantly taken out? Sometimes we just need a little technology babysitter. Anyway, with that being said, here are Mason's oldie but goodie favorite apps.

Letter School

Planes : Fire and Rescue

Cars

Endless Reader

Duplo : Trains

If you've never heard of some (or any) of these apps, more details on how great they are can be found in my previous favorites post!

And now for a couple new ones that we've been loving over the past couple months.

YouTube Kids

This is an app that I'm sure every parent (and child) is familiar with. I have a love/hate relationship with it. When Mason first discovered this app, he would watch all of those surprise egg videos, Ryan's Toy Reviews, those singing finger songs, and who knows what else (basically anything annoying he could find). More recently, he's been LOVING any video that teaches him numbers, colors, shapes, days of the week, months, etc. And I've been LOVING that these videos are educational! He's also been really in to the videos that read him books, which is how we discovered his love for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. He watches the video and literally sings the song back - even before he had the book.

Lego : Food

This app is very similar to the Lego : Trains app in the fact that it is a Lego based app. In this app, you can choose to run a cupcake stand, a hamburger stand, or an ice cream stand. You have to set up your stand and then customers come and you have to make the combinations that they want. It teaches the kid to match colors and shapes and copy patterns. Mason used to just choose whatever shapes and colors he wanted but now he really looks at the pattern and copies appropriately.

And then there's a new to us app that we've recently been loving - KidloLand! I'm sure some of you may have heard of it before or possibly even tried it. I actually hadn't heard of it before a couple of blog friends did a review on it, but now I'm so glad we found it! I was recently able to try out the app with Mason and let me tell you, he LOVED it! It took a couple minutes to download on the iPad and Mason could hardly contain his excitement while it was loading.

For those of you who may have never heard of it, KidloLand is an app that contains over 1,000 nursery rhymes, songs, activities, stories, and games for kids. It is fully interactive and holds Mason's attention way longer than all of the other apps that I mentioned above. What I love the most about the app is that Mason is excited about getting iPad time and thinks he is playing a game. And while he technically is playing a game, he is also learning. THAT is the best part!

The app also gets updated periodically with new holiday themed options to choose from (right now there's a Christmas song, Christmas stories, and Christmas games) in addition to the regular updates. The nursery rhymes options come in packs 1-20 and recently, a new 21-25 pack and seriously have EVERY nursery rhyme you can think of (which is GREAT because I rarely ever know all the words to them when Mason wants to sing). The stories option has stories for the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are there now) as well as stories about bugs, the ocean, going to bed, animals, and so many more. There's phonics and ABCD songs that help the kids with their letters. There's an option to learn to trace which reminds me so much of the Letter School app that I mentioned above (but better!) where you can learn to draw uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and shapes. There's options to learn months and days, weather and seasons, occupations, places around us, vehicles, and seriously the list goes on. I've never seen so much learning that could happen on one app.

In addition to all these apps, there are plenty more that he loves, some get more play than others, but these are the his main go-to's right now. The list is ever changing as he gets older and as his likes and dislikes change, but for the most part, these ones ring tried and true. That being said, we are always looking for new apps to try! (I especially love the free ones!)

And now for the best part! KidloLand was extremely generous and is letting me giveaway THREE 3-month trials of their app! The giveaway is open to people worldwide and the KidloLand app is available for download on the App Store (iPhone/iPad), the Android App on Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore for Android. I'm super excited about this giveaway because I'd love for more people to get to experience this amazing app!

Giveaway runs from January 3, 2017 at 3am Pacific Time to January 10, 2017 at 11:59pm Pacific Time. Entries will be verified. Winner will be notified by me. Free trial will be emailed to you by KidloLand. Good luck!

  4. We have this app and one of the reason I love it is that we can use it without needing wifi. I usually let Connor have it while we are grocery shopping. It keeps us both from going crazy.
