[It's the Little Things] Unexpected Surprises

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

I had a completely different post scheduled for today and then last night happened and I switched it up. Hey, life happens, you gotta be flexible!

Last night Seth had softball like he does every Tuesday. But this week, his game was at 6:45pm. I had to work until 5:30pm and with traffic, there would be no way that I could be home in time. Seth asked Papa (Seth's dad) to pick up Mason from daycare for us and he happily agreed.

I got home at 6:30pm-ish, just as Mason was eating dinner. Papa finished feeding Mason and we talked for a little and then he headed home. I ate some salad and then took Mason upstairs to take a bath. I started the bath water, went to get Mason in his room (where he was playing), and brought him in to the bathroom. I took off his shorts and shirt and next came the diaper. I checked for (lack of a better word) #2 and he was clean. I thought I was in the clear... I turn to throw away his diaper in the trash can and... what's that noise?

Mason peeing on the side of the bath tub.

Surprise!

Yes, that really happened. And I hate to admit it, but I kind of just stood there and let it happen! Haha. I was in so much shock, I just stood there. He finished and I plopped him in the tub and cleaned up the mess.

I bathed him, he played, and then I took him out of the bath, wrapped him in a towel, and brought him to his room to dry him off and get him dressed in his PJs. I dried him off, started to put his diaper on, but needed to put some  aquaphor on before I fully diaper-ed him up. Things were going well, I've given Mason a book to distract him from touching anything, I finish with the aquaphor, and turn to put the lid back on the container and....

Yep, you guessed it! He pees AGAIN. Seriously kid!! How much water did you drink at dinner??

Surprise!

I was so shocked that he peed again that I didn't even really try to stop it (again! haha). I put my hand to cover and then whipped the diaper up to catch the rest, but it was too late. I wasn't even mad, I seriously just started to laugh. Poor clean kid was not so clean anymore.

I mean, how can you be mad at this face?

It might seem silly to post about "surprises pees" as a little thing, but being a boy mom is my most favorite thing and the little surprises are a part of that. I thought I had this boy mom thing down, but what my boy has taught me is... there's never a dull moment with him! And I wouldn't have it any other way :)

  1. Haha nice! Noah's new thing is to stand in the tub as it's filling with water and pee. So much for actually cleaning him in his bath! I think he's been peeing in the tub for a while, now he's just figured out how to do it standing up ;). I think we are in for a lot worse as boy mamas ;)

  2. I love that you just laughed without getting mad! I can see laughing at the first one but the 2nd time I'm pretty sure I would've been upset. way to go mama! :)

  4. Lol I love this! I was honestly waiting for you to say he pooped on the floor too. I applaud you for being so nonchalant about the ordeal! Ha that's awesome!

  5. Ha! Love this. I swear Drew has the tinniest bladder or drinks WAY too much. He's 3.5 and has been potty trained for nearly a year, but not at night. We're still in pullups as I have NO clue how I'm supposed to get him to hold it for 10-12 hours!!

  7. What a sweet smile!! It's so funny you posted about this - we had a day JUST like this the other day - in the morning while getting dressed, he peed without his diaper, TWICE. It was so weird because it hasn't happened like this since he was a baby..?! Haha The peeing by the bath is usually a normal thing, especially if the water is still running and he's not going on the potty. Oh BOY!! :) Haha!!

  8. hahaha! Aria peed on the floor almost every time I'd give her a bath until I learned to take her diaper off and immediately put her on the toilet while I got everything else ready and the water going. Most of the time she pees on the toilet too. Then she started getting me with right at the end of the shower/bath poops. I couldn't figure out anything for that one, but she stopped doing it lately soooo fingers crossed =) It is hard to be mad when they really aren't doing it on purpose, what can ya do but clean it up. I usually was like...oh look you went peepee, next time you can ask mama to put you on the toilet! I was totally scared of this if I had a boy though btw. Not as easy to be projectile peed on with a girl...although it has definitely happened a time or two. There was that time she projectile pooed all over the floor on Christmas morning during a diaper change. And, it is a good memory haha =) I always think back and laugh about it. So, you've got the right attitude! No more peeing on things Mason!

  10. So funny! I get this little surprises all the time. I like to let Myles be free at least once a day. I can't imagine wearing a diaper all day long, everyday! A couple months ago I let him outside after his nap without a diaper on and he came running inside telling me poopy. I figured it was the dog's poop because he always tells me when he finds the dog's poop. I go outside and nope.. it was his! Lol.. Kind of nice though because it was easy to clean up! He did it like three days in a row!! too funny these boys are!
