Thanksgiving 2014.

Thanksgiving came and went a lot faster than I anticipated. And like *that* it is now December and we are in full on holiday mode. I can't believe it's already December 2nd. I'm already feeling anxiety just thinking about how many things I want to do before the 25th!

But before I get ahead of myself... let's rewind a few days and head back to last
Wednesday : Thanksgiving Eve.

Mason's school closed early on Wednesday so Seth got off work early and picked him up. When I got home, Mason had brought home this super cute Thanksgiving craft. When I mentioned to Seth how cute it was he said "yeah, so cute that Mason ate almost all the popcorn off of it in the car on the way home!" Oops! Haha. That explains why the corn is so bare!
Hope that glue was non-toxic...

Later that night, it was dessert time. I was in charge of desserts for Thanksgiving (they were smart and knew what to put me in charge of!) and I did not want to disappoint. I had my heart set on a chocolate pecan pie and got a recipe from a former co-worker. The recipe did not disappoint! It was DELICIOUS. I also wanted something pumpkin, but not your traditional pumpkin pie (because, let's be honest, if we are eating pumpkin pie, we should just get a Costco pumpkin pie. Why? They are cheap and ever so delicious!). So I opted for Mix and Match Mama's Pumpkin Pie Snickerdoodle Bar. It was the perfect spin on regular pumpkin pie and was equally delicious.

Thursday morning, we woke up bright and early to walk in the Dana Point Turkey Trot. My BFF, Vickie, is in charge of the turkey trot and we have done it ever year but last year (we were in Northern CA visiting my family) that she has been in charge.

The motto of the race is "run the race before your stuff your face!" and while we definitely did not run, we did walk our 5K before we stuffed our face.

We also might have taken about 20 selfies as well as stopped by the Keurig "food truck" to get some free coffee (!!!!). By the way, Keurig truck = best idea EVER. Vickie, if you're reading, I hope they are back next year! So cool.

We met up with our friends Lauren, Seth, and Logan who were also there, but they decided to run instead of walk, and we quickly lost track of them as they ran up ahead of us.

But, I mean seriously, how can you not have the best time when you have a view like this?

At some point or another, we passed Vicky from the Real Housewives of Orange County (she seemed to be keeping to herself and was on her phone the whole time). We just walked past and left her alone. I mean, she's just a regular person like the rest of us but her job (if you could call it that?) happens to be on TV. We let her enjoy her day.

Shortly after, Mason decided he had had enough of the stroller and wanted to walk. He did a really great job staying with us and holding my hand for about 2 minutes and then he wanted to run. He was probably out of the stroller for a good 10-15 minutes when he decided he had had enough walking and wanted Daddy to carry him. About 10 minutes after that, Seth decided that he had enough of carrying him and back in the stroller Mason went until we crossed the finish line.

Right after we finished, we ran into Vickie, "Drum Stick" (the turkey trot mascot), and then we headed home. Apparently Mason walked a lot and tired himself out as he fell asleep on the bus on the ride home.

We headed home, grabbed a change of clothes, and headed over to Seth's mom's house to help cook dinner. We met my Dad and step mom, who were in town for the holiday, and Seth's dad. We showered, we cooked, we watched football, Mason napped. It was the perfect lazy, family filled afternoon.

As soon as all the food was ready, I made Mason this wonder plate of all the Thanksgiving goodies and what did he eat?
Nothing.
He took two bites of that bread in his mouth and then refused to eat another bite.

I ended up having to make him easy mac because he refused to eat any of the other dinner we made him. Toddlers. They don't understand the greatness of Thanksgiving dinner.

The adults all enjoyed their dinner and then an hour or so later enjoyed some dessert.

Two desserts for me :)
Hey, it was a holiday and there's no calories on holidays, right?

Overall, it was a great, laid back, casual holiday which made it perfect in my book! We have so, so much to be thankful for and I am so thankful for the day off of work to be able to enjoy it and give thanks with my family.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving also!

  1. What a great Thanksgiving!! Love the Turkey Trot idea, so fun! And I absolutely love chocolate pecan pie, my mom usually makes it at Christmas. Wyat only ate some mashed potatoes and a little pumpkin from the pie! ;)

  2. Toddlers! Noah didn't touch his thanksgiving dinner either! He preferred the peppers and cheese we had out as appetizers! And then I gave him a yogurt so he wasn't starving lol!

  3. Such a fun celebration! Wesley was not into Thanksgiving dinner at all either.

I just can't get over your weather! We got like 4 inches of snow the day before Thanksgiving!

  4. I love that your turkey trot is actually on Thanksgiving! Here it is usually the Saturday before which is stupid! Also nice work on dessert!

  5. I love that you did a Turkey Trot that morning - so jealous of those views! Your desserts look like they turned out amazing! Never had a chocolate pecan pie before, but it sounds way better than any I've ever had. Reese didn't eat Thanksgiving dinner either - a little bit of potatoes, and a little bit of ham (no turkey since some people are allergic in my family). What is it with toddlers? Such picky eaters!

  6. Thanksgiving did come and go pretty quick!! And I am with you on the anxiety with the long list of things to do. There aren’t enough weekends in December…at all. I love Mason’s little corn creation! So darn cute. Mix and Match Mama has the greatest recipes, doesn’t she? And she’s adorable to boot! Just love her. I loved your pictures from the Turkey Trot. How fun! You guys are too cute. And my Mason had no interest in the Thanksgiving food, either. He also ate bread & mac and cheese! Oh, our Masons!!!! I guess when they are older and gobbling down the wonderful Thanksgiving food we can remind them how they missed out a few years because they were too stubborn to try it. Haha! Stubborn or not, they sure are precious huh?

  7. first, hahahahaha that he ate the popcorn off. I was looking at it and trying to figure out what it was. I thought it was some food thing on green napkins at first. I get it now. He ate the popcorn off, that is hilarious and totally something Aria would do!
And, yeah he just doesn't understand the greatness of the thanksgiving feast! Since we went elsewhere I'm now craving how I make thanksgiving ha. This happens every year. Maybe we'll do a turkey feast while my in laws are in town. mmm gravy is like my fave. plus leftovers.

  8. What a great weekend! I love that he ate his craft, yet wouldn't eat Thanksgiving dinner. Toddlers!! Mac would only eat turkey. And only when we called it chicken, because he says he doesn't like turkey. I couldn't get him to try any pie, even with whipped cream. Maybe next year.

  9. Eating the craft sounds about like something Marcus would do - especially with popcorn. HA!
Your turkey trot looks like a great time! I love that Mason wore himself out.
As for Thanksgiving dinner we were in the same boat as you! Marcus refused EVERYTHING on his plate. So, his turkey day meal was all the snacks in my purse on our drive home.
