I feel like it was FOREVER ago that Courtney, Jenny, and I announced the Secret Santa Mommy and Me Book Exchange. I mean, it was over a month ago, and in toddler time, that IS practically an eternity :)
I'm so excited to finally be able to share the books that we got!
Mason and my Secret Santas were Nina and Ezra from The Joni Journey and they picked the perfect books for us. The package arrived during the week of Thanksgiving when things were so busy. I wanted to be able to really enjoy opening the presents so I saved them until the weekend.
Plans went a little crazy and we ended up being out that Sunday night when I intended on opening them so we saved them for the first night of our 25 days of Christmas books.
That night we opened our first book (Little Blue Truck Christmas) and then opened up our presents. Mason has been really into opening presents lately and was so excited when I offered another for him to open.
The first thing that we opened was a Planes sticker book. Mason was so excited! He wanted to play with the stickers right then and there but since it was bedtime, I put it aside for the next day and moved on to the book.
He got Cars Little Golden Book Favorites and to say he LOVED it would be an understatement. He was obsessed with it from minute one. I tried to read him one of the stories but he just wanted to keep flipping the pages and looking at the pictures.
We flipped through the pages a couple more times and I attempted to read the story portion to him and then it was bedtime. He loved his book so much and grabs it every time we go into his room now to read.
I was so excited to start reading my book that as soon as I put Mason to bed, I made myself some hot chocolate (which Nina so generously included for me as well!) and sat down to start it. Now, of course, I haven't had much time to read since then but so far so good! I'm loving it.
I Heart My Little A-Holes. The title sounds awful, but the premise is amazing and so, so relatable.
I kinda of found it by mistake on Amazon when I was looking up something else and saw it in one of those "customers who bought this also like this" ads at the bottom. I clicked on it, read the synopsis, and added it to my reading list.
[From Amazon] Once upon a time you and your partner had a perfect life: dinners out, weekend mornings cuddling in bed, brunch with friends. Then you gave birth to a poop machine (or two). Now, it's all about the pediatrician, breast pumps, princess dresses, and minivans. And discovering that your pride and joy is actually a little A-hole. When your son wakes you up at 3:00 A.M. because he wants to watch Caillou, he's an a-hole. When your daughter outlines every corner of your living room with a purple crayon, she's an a-hole. When your rug rats purposely paint the kitchen ceiling with their smoothies, they're a-holes. At times like these, it's only natural to want to kill them (or yourself). But it's against the law (and there's the suicide hotline). Plus, there's that whole loving them more than anything in the whole world thing. In I Heart My Little A-Holes, Karen Alpert shares hilarious stories, lists, and deep thoughts on the joys and horrors of raising children. Accompanied by cheery illustrations and photos I Heart My Little A-Holes will make you laugh so hard you'll wish you were wearing a diaper.
Amen, Karen, Amen. I can't wait to find some time to continue reading!
Thank you so much Nina and Ezra! We loved our presents!
And to find out what we got our Secret Santas, Whitney, Kinsey, and Brielana, head on over to Work It Mommy and find out!
Now tell me... What books did you get? I'm always looking to add to our collections!
Link up with us and let me see what goodies you got from your Secret Santa!
That book is definitely going to the top of my Christmas list!! I need something to turn everyday terrible things into some humor. And looks like Mason got a winner too!
ReplyDeleteThat Nina is one classy lady sending hot cocoa stickers and book marks! Love her! And, love your book choice ha. Definitely something all parents need from time to time...the ability to laugh at how horrible our kids can really be. Of course we still love the stink out of them but a-holes totally hahah love it. I hope you enjoy it when you get a second. Lunch breaks?
ReplyDeleteBahaha! That title is awesome. Keep us posted on how you like the book I am super curious!
ReplyDeleteStop it! That title sounds AWESOME! Dying to hear how you like that book?! What a fun exchange, I'm sad I had to miss out! Life, man!! Hopefully you do this again next year!!
ReplyDeleteHa! That book you got sounds hilarious! I should totally get it! What a fun exchange!
ReplyDeleteI have been so out of the loop...I don't know how I missed this! What a fun exchange!! I totally have to check out that book...too funny!! xo
ReplyDeleteThat book sounds great! I may have to add it to my reading list as well :) Hot chocolate and curling up with a good book, with Christmas tree lights on in the background sounds like the perfect night. I love the reading area you have for Mason- is that in his room, or a playroom?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful books! You spoiled us so! This was the best Secret Santa exchange, I truly enjoyed the whole experience.
ReplyDeleteWhitney
Glad you guys loved the books! We had so much fun shopping for them. Ezra couldn't put down the Cars book, so I decided that was the clear winner for Mason (plus they were out of Dragons Love Tacos at B&N, which sounded intriguing). I just had to flip through your book, and the table of contents alone was hilarious. It's on my reading list too now! Merry Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet she included hot chocolate! Your book sounds awesome!! So fun to host this exchange with you! Looks like you guys both enjoyed the books and openeing them!
ReplyDeleteI have those bookmarks on standby for Connor's stocking. I may or may not use one myself. Also? I love your messy bun. It looks so full and pretty and not like the rat's nest mine usually is.
ReplyDeleteLet's start by mentioning how awesome Mason's pjs are. His books and stickers sound perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour book looks like one I need to read. Sounds hilarious, and love that it's relatable. So sweet the the hot cocoa was included!
So much fun! Thanks again for organizing! You're the best!
