[It's the Little Things] Lowe's Build and Grow... with mom!

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

This past weekend, Seth had to work which meant that it was just me and Mason all weekend.

After the last Lowe's Build and Grow that we did on Valentine's Day, I knew I wanted to try to go to another one. The next one was scheduled for Saturday, February 28th (a super cool Monster Truck!) and at first I wasn't sure if I would sign up since Seth had to work and I thought that would be "their thing" to do together. But alas, I decided that I could always go pick it up and bring it home and they could do it together after Seth got home from work. The Build and Grows fill up crazy quick so I set my alarm to remind me to register on the morning of the day that registration opened. I hopped online at 7am and was able to secure a spot.

I had scheduled Mason for a hair cut on Saturday morning at 9am because his hair was getting out of control. I figured that would give us enough time to get there, get the hair cut and get back in time. If you are not at the Build and Grow by 10am, they give away your kit (the horror!) so I wanted to give us plenty of time. We arrived at 10:00am on the dot.

The whole way there, I was talking to Mason about going. I kept asking him if he wanted to build a Monster Truck with me and he seemed really excited. At this point, I had still planned on getting the kit to go because I remembered what a hard time we had wrangling the toldder with two of us so I was not planning to try on my own. I kept talking it up and asking if he wanted to build with me and he was still acting excited. Even when we got there, I asked if he wanted to build and he threw his hands in the air and yelled "ya!". So build we did!

Mason was obsessed with holding the hammer this time vs last time when he wanted nothing to do with it. It's amazing what a little snack BEFORE the activity can do for his mood! I tried to show him how to actually hammer the nail, but all he really wanted to do was lay down on the dirty floor and hold the hammer (#toddlersareweird). Overall, we had a great time together, he didn't try to run away from me and down the aisle, and he loved the finished product.

It was perfect.

  1. I think toddlers are affected by hunger way more than we sometimes think! I'm so glad to hear he was into it more this week! That's so cool they got little hammers to use too! Noah would love doing this, I'll have to check it out!

  8. I've seen folks sharing their morning at Lowe's photos but thought C would be too little. That wouldn't be the case if Mason could do it, you know! Maybe I can get J to take C and I could enjoy a morning to myself... sleeping ;)

  11. Lol lay on the floor and hold the hammer. I think this monster truck is the craft that is on the schedule for the next Grow and Learn here. Maybe, I'll ask my husband if he wants to take Lily? Are there ever any girls at this stuff? haha Lily is all about using some tools.
You are so right...snacks go a LONG way for sure and can totally make or break a situation. So glad ya'll had such a lovely time...just the two of ya'll!!

  15. Yay!!! So much fun. We have a box FULL of little cars and trucks and other wheeled projects that we have made through the years. They are always our favorites and the only ones that we actually end up keeping around.

    Good job!
