Fri-YAY!

Friday, November 13, 2015

Happy Friday! I don't know what it is about this week, but I'm super excited that it's finally Friday and that the weekend is almost here. We're going to a birthday party on Saturday and have some plans with friends (that include a donut breakfast!) on Sunday so it's shaping up to be a good weekend! But before we get too far ahead of ourselves... here's my weekly five!

ONE.
Elf on the Shelf - Do or Don't?

I love love love when I see people's Elf on the Shelf ideas. In fact, Andrea from Momfessionals kills it every year with her elf adventures and her North Pole breakfast elf introduction. I want so badly to do Elf on the Shelf myself but... I'm not sure I have the creativity and time and energy for it. Plus I'm not sure that Mason would really get it, at least this year, so I may hold off until next year? At least now with my new job, I have some extra time in the mornings which actually makes it feasible. With my old job, we'd constantly be rushing out the door in the mornings and he wouldn't even have time to enjoy it. We'll see! Thoughts? Elf on the Shelf? Yay or nay?

TWO.
Straightener recommendations?

I'm pretty sure that my straightener is about to kick the bucket. It's pretty old and just doesn't seem to be getting as hot as it used to. Anyone else use a straightener and love it? Recommendations please!

THREE.
Recent purchases.

I recently went to Old Navy for some things for Mason and came out with some jeans for me. Ever since I got some straight leg jeans in my second Stitch Fix and got skinny jeans in my first fix, I've been interested in the styles. Since I can't go spending $78 on every pair of jeans, I thought I'd browse Old Navy the other day when I had some super cash burning a hole in my pocket. I tried on a couple pairs and was able to find some that I loved - one pair in blue and one pair in black! And now? I'm not sure where skinny jeans have been my whole life! I've been wearing them with my Toms and with my new Converse almost everyday!

FOUR.
Deals on Amazon.

I found this pin on Pinterest yesterday and found it to be so helpful and insightful. I knew a couple of the tips already, but some of them were new (and genius!) to me!

FIVE.
This.

I've been seeing this floating around the internet lately and think it's hilarious. And so, so true. I swear it hit 60 degrees the other day and I thought I was going to freeze to death.

And with that, we're back to 80 degrees this weekend (or so the weather forecast says). Fall, come back!

  1. We do Elf on the Shelf. So far it's just been moving it around the house because Cam was smaller and we didn't need to be creative. I'm going a bit more creative this year and have already planned it all out, but still not over the top. There are so many ideas on Pinterest which is nice. You don't have to go crazy with it. It's all about the fun. My hubby likes to move him too and once put him in the fridge and scared the crap out of me. Ha ha!

  2. Too funny, I posted about the elf in my Friday post too! We just ordered ours but we don't plan to go crazy with a mischievous elf and I don't want to use it as a scare tactic for Noah to behave. Instead I just want it to be a fun tradition. We waited til this year when I think Noah will really get it and enjoy it. So if you don't think Mason will, then id hold off one more year. And you are too funny with the 60 degrees being freezing! Yesterday it was 58 here and I figured I didn't need a jacket!

  3. Ok so I don't usually read Friday posts or do them. But I swear every. single. time. I read yours I'm so glad I did because there's always something GOOD here!! I am an amazon junkie so excited for that article of tips! Please share what straightener you buy! I've had mine for an embarrassingly long time and it needs an upgrade but I have no idea what to get! So we are doing elf on the shelf. I have no idea if Callie will get it but she's SOOOO into Christmas this year it seems like the right time. I'm not planning any naughty things. I saved a list of really easy stuff that Leah from Everyday Love posted last year that looks super managable. We did a north pole breakfast last year but on Christmas Eve so this year I'm just going to do it Thanksgiving weekend. Oh and when the elf comes I ordered this super cute mini Santa bag from thiry-one that each year the elf will bring a welcome gift and a good bye gift. (welcome gift will be xmas PJs). So all that said Mason seems into holidays and if he is then go for it. Who cares if he doesn't totally understand -- it's really about the holiday spirit and season. Hope that helps! :)

  4. I haven't bit the bullet on elf shelf yet. I'm not sure if we ever will. I mean I don't really get it for one, but it does look fun. I just know I'd forget to do a new something one night and ruin Christmas for-ev-er. Or something =)
I opened up the amazon one to read next!! I love tips.
I love your shoes. I had them on my Christmas list the other year and they were out of the pink I wanted =(

  5. Haha, if it was 50 degrees in Maine, there'd be girls in tank tops!! :) Thanks for the Amazon link....I always love a good deal!! Last year, we did Elf on the Shelf, but only every now and then...otherwise, he'd stay in the same spot and "watch." This year, I may have him just be in our advent calendar and move to the next number each day. Seems easy enough for me!! :)

  6. I am not an Elf on the Shelf fan.... but I think I'm in the minority. I LOVE those Converse.... like I need a third pair, but still! LOVE them! Yay for more jeans! I was able to snag black and gray ones from ON with out rewards! I am pumped!

  7. We do the Elf on the Shelf, but my kids know he's not real, so it's more of a mom hides him, they find him type of game. :)

I love my straightener... Nano Titanium!

I want those Converse! One of my friends had a red pair on yesterday and she looked so cute.

    Enjoy your fun weekend, Elizabeth!!!

  8. Awhoo hoo on the jeans find! I love the Elf on the Shelf idea, my girls are too old for it but I always enjoy seeing pictures of my other friends that do it. It seems fun. :)

  9. I've been very anti-Elf, but I'm seriously considering it this year. Not for the antics or the excitement of moving him around, but for the pure threat of using it against my 3-year old and scaring him into being good. Yeah, we've gone that far. UGH. Three is killing me.

  10. LOL about the Michigan/LA weather!! My best friend is in California and I'm in NY. She can't believe how people act when it is 60 degrees! =P

Love the Elf on the shelf idea! =)

  11. So I bought an Elf, but I don't think Jude will really understand it this year. So I'll just move him around a few times for fun this year and get "serious" about it next year! I love my Chi straightener. Expensive, but I've had it forever! Do you like the elasrptic back on those Converse? I really want a pair but can't decide what style to get! And I've had my Prime membership extended like three months because of missed shipping timelines, I'll take it! Happy Friday!

  12. I love that last photo! Haha, so true! :) I am not an elf on the shelf fan, so I doubt we'll ever do it, but that's ok. There's so many other fun activities and such to do around Christmas, that I don't want to add in another thing. I'll have to check out that Amazon tip link- thanks! As for a straightener, this is the one I have and I love it! Inexpensive and works well. http://smile.amazon.com/Remington-S5500-Digital-Ceramic-Straightener/dp/B003S516XO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447446212&sr=8-2&keywords=straightener

  13. I will not do Elf on a shelf. I can't handle it too much stress with Christmas already. I have a T3 flat iron and really love it. I had a Chi for 8+ years and it kicked the bucket.

  14. Do the elf! Last year we started it, and while we were never very creative (except when the Elf announced to Scott and Marcus our family was growing), it was fun to see Marcus hunt for him each morning. It doesn't have to be stressful, or pin/IG/blog worthy stuff. It's just fun to see how excited kids get to find the new hiding places. And, like Sara mentioned - awesome tool for scare tactics. #threenanger

I snagged a pair of ON skinnies a couple weeks ago and LOVE them! So glad you found a couple pair that work for you! Yay skinnies and Converse! P.S. Those shoes are C-U-T-E!

  15. I feel the same about Elf on the Shelf; the first time I saw it was pre kids and it FREAKED me out, but now its so cool and everyone does such neat things! My CHI straightener is the best. I used a 20% off coupon at BBB and got it for under $100, this was 6 years ago and its still going strong. I was late to the skinny jean party too and now thats all I wear lol.

  16. Yay TGIF!! :)
My MIL got us an Elf and I'm not sure about it yet.. I don't plan on going overboard-creative, but I don't want it to be all about 'be good for gifts' kinda thing. My Catholic-ness wants to teach the REAL meaning of Christmas..
Gurrrrrrl, you'd FREEZE your booty off HERE!! :) But you should still come visit.

  17. 60 is boot, sweater, and layer weather FOR SURE. i swear the rest of the country are the crazy ones and not us :) and i LOVE your converse!!!

  18. We have an elf, we got it last year and I think I moved him three times?? Start this year small and you an always grow from there. My goal is to move my elf at least five times and maybe do a prank.

  19. I'm a huge chi fan for straighteners! Babyliss is a great brand as well!
Checking out the Amazon tips right now! Thanks for sharing!

  20. That last meme is so funny, and so true! Haha! I would be so hot if I travelled south right now and I bet you all think it's 'cool' Lol!

We had an elf last Christmas and Scarlett loved him, so we now have to do it this year. Our elf will just be moving around this year though since we will have a new baby and no time to really plan extravagant setups. The elf is kind of a pain in the ass to be honest, but it's worth it to see the look on their face and experience the 'magic' of Christmas.

I need to get another pair of converse, I wear mine so much!

  21. We do the elf, but no mischief. She just moves and the girls find her each day. Last year, that was plenty for Ashlynn, she loved searching for "alice" and we'll just do that again this year.

  22. I love to look at other people's Elf stuff, but have zero desire to have one in my own house. In fact, we were gifted one last year and I screamed "No!!!!" and threw it in the back of a closet. I will pretend it doesn't exist as long as I can. As for the straightener, I've been super pleased with my Babyliss Nano. The best website for hair product reviews is Folica.com though. Look at their "Top 10" lists. The reviews are usually thorough and spot on.

  23. I vote yay on elf on the shelf. For the first year, you could just have him out and move him around if you remember, but don't stress about it. Liam has always loved looking for him even if it was something simple. This year I plan on getting more creative since I think he will be way more into it than before!

  24. DO THE ELF!!!!! Just feel free to put your own twist on it.

The weather thing cracks me up and blows my mind all at the same time. I really need to get some straight leg jeans. Maybe I will check out Old Navy myself!

  25. Elf on the Shelf came out when my first two kids were older, so I couldn't introduce it. Maybe I'll be able to with my second two!
Love those Converse. I really want a new pair!
