Getting to Know You + a Tuesday Talk Announcement!

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

I'm so excited to announce that starting today, I will be a co-host for the Tuesday Talk Link-up! I was so honored when they asked me to be a co-host for the link-up and am excited to share that news with you today.

Since today is the first day that I'm co-hosting, I thought I'd do a little "getting to know you" post since I might have a few new readers popping on over from the link-up. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but a couple months ago (yes, a couple MONTHS ago), Jess from Scott Family of Maine, Whitney from Work It Mommy, and Amy from Keepin' Up with the Smiths tagged me in the Liebster Award and today I thought I would answer a couple of the questions that they asked me.

Here are their questions:

Jess's Questions

What was your major in college? Where did you go?
I went to the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and majored in Business Administration. You may have heard of Stockton - a couple years ago it was rated one of the most dangerous cities to live in in America. Yep. My good ol college town. Now, mind you, I don't think I knew this fact when I went there, but let's just say that it was significantly "louder" than I remembered my hometown being and what I mean by that was sadly, I got used to hearing sirens overnight, multiple times a night and when I went home for Thanksgiving or Christmas break, I thought it was quiet. Yeah, that's bad.

What was your first car?
Goodness, I can't remember the year of the car (maybe 1990? Or 1991?) but it was a blue Camry station wagon. It was my moms and when she got a new Camry sedan, the station wagon became mine. Yep, I was the proud owner of a light blue station wagon. I was a HUGE brat and complained so much that my mom let me use her new Camry whenever she didn't need it and I later was able to get my own, new, silver Camry sedan also.

What's the #1 quality you want your kid(s) to have?
Kindness. There's so much hate in the world these days. I just want Mason to know kindness and compassion and exercise those qualities often.

Do you prefer the mountains or the ocean?
The ocean for sure. Though, oddly enough, living in Southern California, mere minutes from the ocean and the beach, I almost never go. But, I am much more of a beach person than a mountains person. I like to look at the mountains from afar.

What's your favorite sport to watch?
I'm not really a sports person though being married to Seth has changed that a little. So on a regular basis, I guess I'd say baseball, but given the opportunity, pretty much any sport on the Olympics. Can I say the Olympics is my favorite sport to watch?

If you could change one thing from the past 10 years, what would it be?
I don't really know. Nothing? I mean everything that has happened in my past has brought me to where I am today and where I am today, I wouldn't change a single thing about it. But I guess if I had to choose, I'd say I'd save more money when I was younger instead of spending it on frivolous things that I can't even remember now. I'd love to have had a savings and been able to buy a house already.

What's your favorite dinner to cook?
I don't cook... I bake! So in terms of actually making dinner, I guess I'd have to say I make a mean spaghetti (lol) and actually I know how to make my mom's meatloaf recipe pretty well too! But that's all.

Wine, beer or cocktail?
At home, wine. At a restaurant, cocktail.

Whitney's Questions

What is your favorite blog post you have written and why?
A Letter to my Son with Autism. It was just so raw and heartfelt. I just sat down and wrote all my feelings, cried the whole time, and hit post. I was so nervous and so happy at the same time. It had been over a month since we had gotten Mason's diagnosis and it just felt so freeing letting everyone know.

What's your favorite item of clothing?
I literally cannot believe I am saying this because I HATE shorts, but my Kut from the Kloth jean shorts from Stitch Fix! They are SO comfortable!

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I think a teacher? But that was a long time ago. Then I realized that I am terrible at explaining things to people and thought being a teacher would not work out so well.

What is your standard drink order at Starbucks?
Tea - Iced Peach Green Tea Lemonade
Coffee - Decaf vanilla latte. Usually iced. Sometimes hot.

What three things couldn't you live without?
My family, my phone (which is also my camera), and love.

What is your favorite color?
Probably blue or black, just because I wear those colors the most.

What is your 'go to' store if you have free time?
Target for sure!

What's your favorite season?
We don't really have seasons here in Southern California. It's pretty much either warm or super hot. But I guess in theory I'd like to say my favorite season is Fall. I like that it is cooler and I like layering and wearing scarves. That being said, sometimes it is hotter in the Fall than in the Summer (it was crazy that way last year - actually hotter in the Winter and Fall than the Summer), but I like the idea of Fall best.

Amy's Questions

What was your favorite part about your wedding day?
Oh goodness! I seriously can't pick. EVERYTHING. If I could go back and re-do the day, I would do it all exactly the same.

What is your dream job?
Being a mom.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging shortly after Mason was born. My friend, Tara, has a blog and I loved reading it and thought it was so cool. After having Mason, I thought it would be a great way to be able to update all our friends and family who live all over on how he was doing. So, that's how it started. It quickly grew in to so much more as I started reading other blogs and started making connections. Now I share more than just about Mason but about us as a family, recipes, and much more and I've made so many connections and friendships and real life friendships from it. It has been incredible.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I never thought I'd say this but morning person. And maybe my life has just moulded me that way since I have to wake up early for work but now I find it way easier to get up early than to stay up past mayyyyyyybe 9 or 10pm. If it's after that, you can almost always find me asleep on the couch. I just can't keep my eyes open!

Are you more of a city or country girl?
City girl for sure. But really more of a suburbs girl than a big city girl.

What is your least favorite chore?
Cleaning the bathrooms! Yuck.

How old were you when you got married?
26.

What is your favorite Disney or Disney Pixar movie?
Planes : Fire and Rescue. I think I like it more than Mason!

Where is your favorite store to shop for yourself?
Target - of course! I could spend hours in there just roaming around and checking everything out!

Can you relate to any of my answers?

And if you want to know even more, you can find out more about me here.

  2. I had the same reaction to going to college in a city and it being loud as opposed to the town I grew up in! Hey, I didn't have a station wagon, my brother got that one, but my first car was a light blue oldsmobile! lol.

  4. KINDNESS. I always ask my kidlets "what is the most important thing in this world?" and they always say back "to be kind!" I LOVED your answers of course! And I can relate to so many! I can still remember walking on the sidewalk next to the street my first day going to mentor and a whole car full of guys pulled up...oh goodness I never walked along the street EVER again! Just remember I drove a 1971 Volkswagon Bug! So wishing we were close enough to grab a coffee or a cocktail!!!

  9. I had a Camry too (95) and loved it! Probably my favorite car that I've had. And yes to everything Target! I wish I had like 2 hours to just wander that store. Although that would probably get me in trouble.

  16. I love your answer for what you want Mason's #1 quality to be - kindness. You are totally right, there just is not enough of that in the world & I really drill that into my stepdaughter's head as well. One will never look stupid by being kind.
